Big screen replacement to cost Millwall at least £150,000

MILLWALL do not have plans to immediately replace The Den's faulty big screen, which is being dismantled over the international break.

The club have been unable to use the screen this season and have now decided to take it down – but nothing will be going up in its place for the time being at least.

A replacement would cost the club around £150,000.

Chief executive Andy Ambler said: "The screen was dead so we've taken the opportunity to get rid of it. A company who are willing to take it away have come in.

"We know we need to replace it and there are options but that won't happen imminently. It's not cheap so this is a case of getting our priorities right."

If we didn't sign the useless Hoyte then that money, ie his wages, would have paid for this and then some. Also Ranegie wages were a complete waste of money. Can't wait for the fans to be blamed (again).

Not fussed about a new screen. Just get some digital clocks around the ground so we know how much time has elapsed

@spicerack: I agree. It would be great to have at least 2 countdown clocks in the ground - 1 in each North end corner of the ground so we know how long is left. Also depending on the size of the countdown clock's it might be a great place to advertise above and below the clock if the club get them.

All we need is a scoreboard with a clock.
That's what Fulham have and it looks ok to me.

@Millwall1979: Hoyte, Bywater, Easter, Wright and If Ollie has no intention of playing him Shituu. I couldn't give a s*** about the screen I sit in block 18 and its a s*** angle. I would much rather see the money go on players or a statue for big Kitch.

@Lincolnshire Lion: We lack ambition because we won't pay out £150k for a screen? Would rather spend the money on players which surely shows more ambition.

Millwall say they want to generate money but are two tight to replace the screen. The screen can be used to advertise, bringing in extra money some clubs already do this for about £2000. For about 25 seconds of air time.

@block 28: @lion.ie: exactly right, be great if used correctly for match day entertainment/advertising/zampa goin at it with his new missus etc. have match clock in the corner. Get the creative dept onto it and a sponsor to tip in. Seriously could be a real money spinner with the right approach.

@grassgrower: Agree to a certain extent but who would pay £2,000 to advertise to a crowd of 9,000 most of whom are in the bar before the game and at half time when I assume the adverts would be on? But obviously it could give us access to additional revenue if marketed properly. But when have Millwall ever marketed anything properly?

@Sidcup Lion: mate I've only been 2 the den on 4 occasions but what struck me as unusual was the limited food catering and at that time fairly bland pre match entertainment. I've worked in the football industry for over 20 years at various levels so experienced quite a variety of set ups during that period. It is with absolute respect that I comment on this cause as I said have not visited the ground often and am unaware of the day to day operations. What is clear to me though is that millwall football club has a magnificently unique feel to it and so much potential. Saw on video the work and energy the staff have put into the kids section and it looks fantastic. In relation to the food and beverage, I'm not sure what the expectations are from the members and supporters but at that time did strike me as a bit light on for choice and in my experience that side of the operations can be a massive earner for the club plus enhancing the match day feel for everyone.

Other grounds use the screen to show highlights of previous games or adverts at half time. Highlights of the first half just gone would also be good.

That is what we should have done. Maybe we could have put Hoyte on a electrician's course, might have been more useful than having him play in RB@Jim28:

Have a screen that can be rotated and used as an advertising board for all the commuters that are going past the ground on trains. Surely some deal could be done with JCDeaux

@wappinglion: Great Idea - Wouldn't need to revolve either, just make it double sided - we could advertise as well on the side facing the tracks.
