NEIL Harris praised the leadership qualities of Danny Shittu after the veteran defender helped Millwall U21s to a cup win over Colchester United.

The young Lions won 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at The Den.

First-teamers Shittu and Magaye Gueye both featured in the game and development squad boss Harris was particularly fulsome in his praise of the centre back's performance.

"I think Danny epitomises what every professional should be about," Harris told the club's official site.

""He stepped down to the U21s to gain some match practice and he led the team.

"His talking in the dressing-room, his talking and communication with the young lads on the pitch was first class.

"That's what a leader is all about, that's what a captain is all about. He's done that for years and years to his sides and he did it against Colchester.

"It wasn't just his leadership, it was the way he played as well.

"He was the one that was throwing his body in front of the ball at the end of 90 minutes and at the end of extra time, and if those young players want to have a career in the game then they need to look no further than Danny Shittu."

Shhiiituuuuuuuuuuuuuu! I don't care what anyone says I think the bloke is great. He can't pass, no pace but you aint going to beat him in the air and the man is a tank, 'Danny Shituu, that's what we do!'

@Dazi: It was too high a standard for him, he would have been well out of his depth.

I was there last night and I must have been a different game - Shittu was terrible last night. This is the worst he has looked in my opinion for a long time.
Ollie - Try getting goodman and a couple of them youngsters in the squad. They look hungry for it. It was good to see that Goodman is a CB in our ranks that can win a header, has pace and puts his body on the line. 100 times better than Webster or Dunney at the back.

@Millwall1979: @kentlion: a big discrepancy here I would want Bomber's version to be true, but is it just a old pals act ?, if anyone else was there input please, also how did Maggie shape up ?.

hopefully this is Harris saying that he can have a positive role in bringing through the youth because he shouldn't be let anywhere near the first team coach - we have dunne Williams beevers and Webster and robbo if it comes to it - and yes goodman if he is up to it - nothing personal - he is just past it at this level

@timchimes: so Bombers talking b******* is he ? ......" Nothing personnel I love the bloke" , he is the best in the air at the club. If we played him up front we might win something in the air.
