Millwall boss: Supporters loved seeing O'Brien and Gregory

IAN Holloway believes Millwall fans have taken an instant liking to Aiden O'Brien and Lee Gregory.

O'Brien, 20, made his league debut and summer signing Gregory scored his first goal for the Lions against Birmingham in midweek.

And Holloway was pleased with the reaction both players received from the crowd.

Holloway said: "I know what the fans want.

"Aiden coming on gave everybody a lift because they love an underdog and a young player. They love Gregory already and that's great too.

"It took Steve Morison a long time to settle down and score a goal and how well did he do for this club? And Gregory already has one.

"I'd just like to reiterate that the only reason I wasn't playing Gregory was because he was injured and he's gone from training twice a week to playing up three divisions.

"Does he look ready for it now? Yeah – and he scored, so I'm delighted for him.

"The fans here want to see people come good and that's me all over.

"I haven't been jumping at loan signings because Aiden is a goalscorer and if he responds to me in the right way, he could be a goalscorer for the first team and play in my team.

"He's old enough and he's potentially good enough. He has lots of skill. It's great to have some youth and enthusiasm."

      @foxy:
      Spot on about Dunne and Malone..
      Up against a big striker Dunne cannot win ball in the air and opposition has sussed that.
      Malone has not 'trained on' and for all his effort is making wrong decisions throughout the game...he might just make it into the side as a left winger ??? in front of Briggs...but defensively he is far too weakl

        @foxy: @eio: I totally agree. I mentioned Malone and Briggs a few days ago, with the amount of pace they have got together down that flank would very good. Malone does leave us a little exposed at times when he charges forward and Briggs would be a perfect overlap and back up. Should also be very interesting because quite a few times when Woolford and Martin were on the wings they would often switch over. With Woolford capable of bombing down the right Malone down the left it would give us that much needed paceto supply the killer passes to Gregory and hopefully O'Brien. (Until Martin is back). I like seeing the youth play and us pressing teams high up the pitch, but if we do press then we have to have Webster at the back as they are likely to play more long high balls.

    Definitely play Gregory, O'Brien looks ok but please don't play 2 up front as we will just get dominated in midfield!
