What can you say. When you defend like that, you deserve to lose.

They didn't play until the 2nd half.

Much improved but too little too late as the damage had been done and against an awful Birmingham team to rub it in.

@MFC Lion: Interesting - it's either our players are not good enough for this division or Ollie's game plans are wrong. You can't fault the players are most are really trying.

@AireLys: Trying is not enough for me. These are professional footballers on more money than most of the population are on playing a game most would play for free. There are standards that should be met as a rule and trying is not one of them, I sm sorry but I can try to play golf but I do not expect to get in the Ryder Cup team. Do the job you are paid to do to an acceptable level of requirement and if you then come up short then so be it. Our players are not children Ffs

@JonnyBanks: 100% agree jonny. I have never been able to get my head around professional footballers not delivering what should be bread and butter skills, game on game. If I delivered poor performances over two days I'd be sacked. If I turned up for work unfit due to my own neglince I'd be sacked. I don't think it helps when ollie constantly changes players positions and the confusion is showing. The excuses are wearing thin, what's the next curve ball excuse "it threw me cos they lined up with a goal keeper" . Come on ollie, you've seen enough to know who plays best and where. We are a two striker team end of

@AireLys: Some of the marking there was nothing to do with formation, it was basic defending as a team. Ollie can make every formation in the book, but if the plauyers don't play for each other there is little else he can do. Good to see Obrien involved in the Gregory goal, what a great finish.

Woeful defending and woeful keeping. But Unbelievably Dunne is captain so it's going to be hard to shake up that back four in the way in needs

Not so sure about the Woeful keeping. The one bit of keeping I see there that wasn't great was the save that Fordey pushed back in to play, luckily there CF put it over the bar. Fordey should be pushing that away from the danger zone...I should know I'm a GK myself doing my badges.

My question is the defence, as in my observations it lacks communication. Pinpointed by that 3rd goal. That's a winger arriving late into the box, if a midfielder/fullback isn't following that man the centre halves should be getting a call of man on etc. We're missing a commanding presence at the back, someone like a Shittu (dare I say it). Albeit dropping either Dunne or Beevers to make way for that. I'd give Webster a go myself, looks a menace. If by reports he's a ball playing centre half, even better as it may stop the panicking Long ball and allow us to build attacks from the back.

On a plus note, Gregory took his goal well and O'Brien continuing to show promise with some good link up play for the goal.

It's that 'Losing- Habit' that I mentioned a little while ago ( on a Post on here ). Once it sets in, very differcult to get out of. One of three things: 1. New player brought in.2 . Some of these players must leave. 3 . A new Manager, befor it's too late.

Sorry to keep on about it, but Dunne has been found out - how some are blaming Beevers for any of the goals is beyond me - Dunne lost his man for the first goal and stopped trying for an offside to get him out of jail and the ball sailed over his head (al la Huddersfield) for the third when he was picking up no-one. Birmingham had to do very little to score 3 goals - worrying.

@Adsy77777: if beevers was in line with dunne there player would of been 3 yards offside. The ball was a good height for beevers to head to safety & a shout from our keeper would of been nice.

@Jim28: Sorry Jim, I didn't think Beevers had that much to do in the air as every time they got the ball they slung it up towards Dunney. It's not about making Dunney a scapegoat, in my opinion it's the managers fault if he keeps on playing Dunne there. In this division we need two proper centre backs. Dunne was magnificent tail end of last season and beginning of this filling in but you can bet that any scouts sent to watch us are reporting back the same thing - target Alan Dunne.

@Jim28: Centre backs should work together at the end of the day they should push up and drop back together, our shape was a bit all over the place last night they are both equally to blame for the 1st and 3rd goals and Forde should also give em a kick up the a*** if he spots them not marking or wander out of position. A bit of team building exercises is needed by the looks of things to get them talking to each other. NOLU WDC

Was there last night, but looks worse on here. What you see is a defence completely lacking leadership and no one taking responsibility. Dunne looks like he is hailing a cab on 2 of the goals, that's what players do, when they don't wont to take responsibility for making that decision. He may have had a rant in the dressing room, but he does not rant on the pitch, like a confident skipper should. And that's because he is struggling with his game. Everyone in this league has tall, strong, center halfs , they have to be, some are better than others, but they are all tall. Take a look at the nigels, Benn Haim, and Amougou, not the quickest by far, but experienced and strong. ( remind you of anyone). I would personally have good strong defenders, defending, that's there job, leave the pretty passing across the back, to someone, i.e Williams to take the ball off of them, and let him pass it. In case you have not guessed, when I played I was a defender, we stopped players playing, that was our job.

Having watched the extended highlights on the official site (I couldn't get there last night) it looks to me like we should have won it by scoring more goals! Attack play looks good but we were a bit unlucky with the finishes. On another day it would have been a 4-3 thriller.
Dunne's defending was atrocious and Beevers screwed up as well for the third goal. Neither of them seem to be doing anything but ball watching and losing their players.
I know Forde wasn't the main culprit but he was lucky not to let in a fourth by palming the ball to one of their striker and he really should be capable of getting down to a free kick from outside the box when the ball is right next to him.
I can see what Ollie is doing with the team and it looks like a big improvement going forward on what we have had for a very long time (probably since Rioch) but he needs to think hard about the defence. I can't see Dunne in there, I just can't. Beevers had a bad day and that happens but Dunne isn't good enough, for all his heart and spirit. I know his leadership was important in pulling us out of the depths last season but in terms of skill is he really better than last year's captain who we have loaned out to a League Two club? I don't think so.

Hi fellow millwall fans im new on here been reading all your posts now its time to leave my own comments. been supporting millwall for over 40 years dad took me and my brother to our first game in the mid 70"s think it was against Fulham. Moved to Cambridge 10 years ago so cant make as many games now ,used to be a season ticket holder when we lived in Peckham. Could not make last nights game so cant comment but from what I reed on here alan dunne is not a centre back to small imo bring back Danny shitu ok he is not blessed with speed but not many players got passed him when he played think he deserves hes chance under ih a lot of you guys will probabley disagree with me on that one. will post again soon just wanted to introduce myself

@Cambridgelion: comparing Shittu and Dunne is like comparing apples and mangos. I am beginning to wonder if either is really championship sad but if we do compare the seven top attributes of a CB: Leadership Shittu, Physical presence Shittu, Pace Dunne, On the ball composure Dunne, Passing ability Dunne, Aerial dominance Shittu, Mobility Dunne, Tackling Dunne. Thing is, Webster probably beats both of them and Sid Nelson could do well.

Hopefully bump in to some of you in the new year away to forest and Rotherham

I have said it before and I stick by what I have said. I have serious worries about IH's approach as we seem to constantly falling in to old habits. This is now his team and clearly he is not able to get the team to play either his way or a way that means we are at least hard to beat. I want him to succeed as it means millwall succeed and that is all we all want BUT can he do it? He can't keep living off the 8 game run at the end of last season as that form no longer matters as our current form is shocking.

I have been a season ticket holder since 1986 so I think I have earned the right to say I have seen good Millwall teams and bad ones....this one (for whatever reason) remains not a good one. On paper we are solid and we should not be getting beat as regularly as we have been. I am no fool I know we can't win every game but we loose far too many and every time I hear different excuses .... It is IH's job to sort it out and now after what is it now what 30 games we are no better than we were (form wise) that under lomas.

I don't know what the answer is but I am really losing faith. I want to be positive but simply struggle to see an end to the s*** form.

Sorry for the rant. I will be positive the next time ... promise.

We are starting to leak goals very quickly teams are scoring off only a few shots on target which is quite worrying I never thought we would go up this year or even get in the play-offs don't get me wrong I was hoping we would but what I was hoping for was that we ended up mid-table and push for the play-offs next year think we need to drop Dunne and beevers to tell you the truth and play Webster and young sid nelson Malone and Briggs at full back abdou just in front of the back four with Williams, upson and Powell in front of him in a 3 man central midfield with o'brian and Gregory up front 4-1-3-2 think that would work to tell you the truth well pleased Gregory is off the mark

iIF YOU LOOK AT ANY DECENT MANAGER THEIR PHILOSOPHY IS ALWAYS BUILD FROM THE BACK AND GET THE BASICS IN PLACE BEFORE EXPERIMENTING WITH PLAYERS . HOLLOWAY DOES NOT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THIS CONCEPT AND SEEMS TO BE ALL OVER THE PLACE WITH HIS SELECTION . I SUGGEST THAT HE SITS DOWN WITH A GOOD COACH AND STARTS AGAIN, ONLY THIS TIME WITH A PROPER PLAN.

Just watched this small highlights.....and I know it doesn't show the whole game.....if that's how we are defending no wonder we are losing week in week out.

Im glad Gregory got a game.....I for one have been hammering on about him asking why he wasn't playing.....from all the comments from people at the game sounds like he worked his socks off and got a goal as well......

Hopefully that is the first of many this year and beyond...

    Now Mr IH.....................

I said it on Saturday and saying it again......

play football with the players you have got....not diamond this and diamond that.....We haven't got the players to do it.....PLAY 442......433 Back to basic's and play players in their position.......and for F*** sake play Gregory every week......he knows how to put the ball in the back of the net...Just get somebody beside him who can do the same....(that isn't Fuller by the way).....

    Over and out.....................C'mon WALL

Beevers had a bad game but calling for him to be dropped is ludicrous. I've been every league game apart from Huddersfield and from what ive watched he has held the defense together, calling for him to be dropped after a having a bad game is stupid. He is still young he still learning but he does definitely need a new partner in the center as Dunne has been a liability all season but has had his moments of great play. Shittu to come in IMO as he isn't someone a striker looks forward to playing against he adds the fear factor.

As I always knew Dunn should have gone a couple of seasons back big mistake to make him captain now were obliged to play him also Forde should have also gone he has been useless for a couple of seasons a good shot stopper but his positioning ( which is key for goalkeepers ) is pretty poor at best .
Yes Beevers has had a couple of bad games but I still think he is a good defender and will turn it around bring in Webster hopefully Sid Nelson will be back soon give him a run of games lets use Fred and some of the other young talent we have .
And lets get behind the manager , yes its frustrating and he talks rubbish at times but some of the s*** that is being aimed at Holloway is a f****** joke do we really want to change the manager after a few bad games that's why west Spam will never do f*** all because of FICKLE fans the same p***** that wanted big sam out 4 weeks ago are now booked in for an Alladyce tattoo at the weekend .....

@mfc2u: Totally agree about Dunne, Forde and Beevers. Not so sure the youngsters are quite ready for a regular place in the side but they should be eased in and I think they are being. We are certainly getting more young players through to the first team. To be fair, this has been a central club strategy since Jackett left but IH is really keen on it, whcih is good.
All the critics of Holloway need to wake up. We are improving, but it will take time. As long as we finish better than last season I am happy. On our gates we won't make giant leaps and we should be grateful we have a chairman who puts cash in -otherwise we would have gone under a couple of years back. I just don't know where some of the critics are coming from, but you do get some people who think it's their place to moan about everything regardless and it's just their philosophy on life.
