Millwall need to "get their mentality back", says Holloway

IAN Holloway believes there needs to be a change in Millwall's attitude after just one win in eight games.

After making a strong start to the new campaign, the Lions have slipped down the table in recent weeks and have not recorded a single victory this month.

Holloway was unhappy with the way his side tailed off against Huddersfield on Saturday and says they must rediscover their early-season focus.

Millwall tonight face bogey team Birmingham, who they have not beaten since 1996.

Holloway said: "They're a bogie team for me as well so we've got to turn our record around against them.

"There needs to be a few changes in people's attitude. We've just got to get on with things.

"We have started to let some goals thing and get some things wrong. After Huddersfield's second goal, I didn't like us at all.

"It felt like the second half of the Ipswich game and I don't get that. It's all about chasing and working and I think we've lost that a little bit when we go behind.

"And we're in the Championship so there will be games when we go behind because there are some good teams in the division.

"We're not a bad team but we've got to stay on task. We've got to get our mentality back.

"We have to get going again and the golfers showed us how it's done over the weekend – look at Graeme McDowell.

"We've got to get used to keeping our emotions out of things and staying focused.

"McDowell looked like he was dead but he turned things round and kept on task.

"We've got to keep fighting because that's what life is about, particularly at Millwall.

"We can't let a goal in and go to pieces but that's twice we've done that now.

"At the end of last year we were great and doing that.

"We've had a half-decent start and if we win tonight and the game after that we'll be back where we need to be.

"Because we got some early points we will climb up the table quickly. We're only our next result away from getting back up there and starting another run.

"The concerning thing for me is that we can raise our game against Nottingham Forest – the difference in our energy levels and intensity on Saturday was unacceptable.

"If you can't deal with the other team scoring a goal, and you lose everything that you were doing, that can't be right.

"It's our Achilles heel at the moment and we have got a lot of work to do with the group to make them keep going."

Birmingham are our bogey team, Birmingham are Olly's bogey team.
All these points Birmingham keep picking up, yet they are always struggling.
Birmingham must have 80 odd bogey teams themselves.

We seem to have quite a few bogie teams at the moment. It's about time we stopped talking about bogie teams and all that b******s and get on with it, starting with a win tonight.

Our formation is wrong. It was a lucky fluke last season that brought us to playing the formation/manner we are and semed designed to not lose matches and hopefully nick a win or two. it worked and gave us a good run at end of season. That is where it should have stopped and reverted to a more positive formation that the players are capable of playing. Enough players have been brought in, many tried in different (often wrong) positions, some not hardly used. it strikes me the formation /style therefore is wrong. I'm not suggesting hoof ball but clearly passing the ball around from one side to the other and barely making any inroads forward is not going to win many matches. Change the formation, play people in their recognised positions and play two upfront and then we might end up at the end of the season mid table, which is about the most realistic psotion we could currently achieve.

I like Ollie and rode the high at the end of last season to stay up, that was a major step in the right direction but we seem to be stagnating at the moment, by now it should be clear who is in the best mix and the team should be generally settled . The injury situation is a pain in the a*** but that's what we got and need to find a way-to limit all the soft ones. Millwalls about bein brave and strong, Ollie, the buck stops with you mate. Let's get this sorted and start producing winning results.
