Huddersfield's Powell relishing battle with Millwall boss

HUDDERSFIELD Town boss Chris Powell has praised the character of Ian Holloway ahead of Millwall's trip to the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday.

Powell, formerly Charlton manager, is looking forward to renewing hostilities with the Lions. And he has spoken highly of opposite number Holloway in the run up to tomorrow's game.

"I know Ian Holloway and Millwall well with it being so close to my previous club," Powell told Huddersfield's official site.

"We have to be wary as he’s built a decent squad; he's managed to bring in a number of players during the summer and he does have options.

"He's had some success and he's also been man enough when it hasn’t happened to go again and regroup like he did at Crystal Palace, so he's a good character and good man who should be in the game and I'm pleased he is.

"We've got on well and he spoke highly of me when things happened at Charlton.

"We're foes on Saturday, but of course we've got Steve Thompson who worked with him at Blackpool and he's also told me how he works and how he thinks.

"We’ll be opposite one another on Saturday and I'm looking forwards to it."

Powell took charge of the Terriers earlier this month but has endured a tough start.

"There is no two ways about it, our players will have to battle; that's the only way out of it, alongside playing your football.

"When things are going against you, that's when you have to puff your chest out and show a bit of pride.

"It's about getting yourself out of a position you don't want to be in. You have to try and make yourselves better and turn things around.

"I know I've only been in charge for three games – a draw and two losses – but we don't want that to continue and that has to be how we move forwards."

I always thought of him as a thoroughly decent bloke. He has always admired Holloway, he said so before he got this job and after he left the Anoraks. I for one wish him well after 5 tomorrow and for a couple of hours when he is back down the Den.

We would expect no less from our manager, I know your comment was a bit tongue in cheek Jim, and be fair think of all the points he has contributed to us over the years both as manager and player of the little lads down the road! I do think this is a big game Glasshalffull a cheeky 0-1 score and a win against Birmingham Tuesday would, I think, mean we are on our way to getting our 'safe season' this year. Would love to 'tonk' the Brummie's after our history with them, they went up when we thought we had done it one year, last gasp goal in play offs and 1-6 score line with us down to nine men but best of all just to see Lee Clark utter the same line he did when he came down with Huddersfield 'I hate this f'in place'.
