Millwall physio: Edwards has significant ligament damage

CARLOS Edwards is likely to need surgery after damaging cruciate and lateral ligaments in his knee as well as rupturing his hamstring muscle.

Edwards was stretchered off in the seventh minute of Saturday's 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest and Millwall physio Bobby Bacic has now confirmed the extent of the injury.

The right back will see a specialist on Tuesday with a view to going under the knife.

It is feared that Edwards will not play again this season but the Lions are unlikely to place a timescale on the defender's recovery until he has had an operation.

Unfortunately at his age this serious injury could well be the end of his career. Even if he does recover he might never be the same player again. This has happened recently with Batt and Robinson and there have been other players in the past who have suffered a similar fate. I hope he does make a full recovery.

We wont see him again in a mfc shirt .2 reasons the injuries (6 months).2.the clause in his contract which says if he has a good season he'll get a extention..cant see the club giving him this..

Only had a years contract and at his age and with this injury I'm sure we wont see him in a Millwall shirt again.
    Gutted for him and us.

May well be the last time he plays for us based on the contract he's on.

Very sad if that's the case as he's been brilliant for us and will not be easy to replace.

Though we've only had him for a short time should his injuries be as bad as feared I would like to see working at wall in some capacity in the future. Was he not considering coaching? Think it might have been mentioned in a previous article.

All the best Carlos, get well soon.

Absolutely gutted. He was key to us staying up last season, and has been part of the 'Ollie revolution', but like others have said above, I fear that could be it for him in a Millwall shirt.

Right Back is looking decidedly shaky now...

Jimmy did great there on saturday, maybe he can be re-invented to play there in the same way Ollie has re-invented Dunne at CB and MacDonald as a creative midfielder?

@tomahawk: I would much rather see Jimmy play there than Hoyte. At least you know Jimmy will give 100% but that may limit our attacking options especially with Martin out down that flank only time will tell. Get well soon Carlos well gutted for ya mate

Terrible luck for the fella and for us. Doubt we'll see him on the pitch again for Millwall which is a real shame all round. I hope I'm wrong, though.
    Good luck, Carlos, and thanks

He's obviously looked after himself over the years so don't write him off just yet and an ideal opportunity for him to get the coaching going with us right now. Best of luck Carlos, get well soon.

This maybe his lot. Such a shame. Even if he regains fitness and strength in the knee , I think he'll go the same way as Danny Senda did. One awkward turn or twist and it's all over.

@Block 8: Senda dislocated his knee cap Block8, this doesn't sound as bad as that and hopefully the scans will give us good news for a change

I questioned his acquisition but he proved me wrong. He was excellent and helped keep us up last season, surprise us all Carlos and make that comeback!

Just thinking how we need a striker come legend goal scorer in the team again! I miss chanting Neil Harris name . . . I thought Gregory was going to be the answer but it's been a false start and I don't see anyone in the team getting more than 10 goals this season. Prove me wrong guys but I think that was the difference on Saturday.

Gregory is fit again so perhaps he may get his chance, unless he has been absolute rubbish in training i cannot understand why he has not played more than he has.

Best O'Luck for the recovery Carlos, as most on here have said you breathed a breath of fresh air into the side since entering the fray, you'll be sadly missed.

Edwards IS (not was) quality and I really hope he gets back. I for one will be singing his name at the next home game ( sorry I won't be away this weekend) as I hope he knows or hears that the Millwall crowd appreciate what he did and that we think he is one of us.

Get well soon Carlos...hope to see you play for us again real soon.

Fuller with Gregory seems the best combination with what we have for a two man strike partnership - with McDonald playing just behind as a play maker! Happy to be wrong if there's an alternative in the squad that can produce more attacking threat and goals. What do others think???
