Millwall manager: Chaplow was "terrific" in holding role

RICHARD Chaplow could be an important player for Millwall this season if he can stay fit, boss Ian Holloway has said.

Chaplow made his first league start for the Lions since February when he was named in the starting XI to face Reading on Tuesday night.

The 29-year-old missed the opening weeks of the new campaign with a hamstring injury but impressed against the Royals.

He was playing in a holding midfield role just in front of the back four.

Holloway said: "Chaplow was terrific. I listened to Reading's commentary last night and they thought he was excellent from start to finish, and so did I.

"I wasn't sure he could do that role because you normally have someone defensive there.

"As it turned out, we needed an attacking option in there to get hold of the ball, pass it and get us moving. I thought he did it brilliantly.

"He has been injured quite a bit but if he wants to play for real, which I know he does, then fantastic.

"I get value-for-money from my players and Chaplow was playing for real the other night."

Really did not think he was terrific, his passing was p*** poor. But then that's why i am not the manager but i did not see what he bought to the team other than losing possession.

He was one of the worst players on the field, kept giving the ball away, didn't create anything and brought nothing to the team apart from a couple tackles.

@Jim28: Exactly he was just a waste of a midfielder.

Very poor comment jim; slagging off the players doesn't help anyone.

@benzo: So it helps being positive about a player that's costing the team points ?

@Jim28: Well, maybe that's why the Reading commentary thought a lot of him, LOL. ( NOLU, WDC ).

@WestKentLion: Clearly everybody doesn't from the posts. What chance do we stand if each player who does not appear Premiership class each time we turn out is written off? I honestly wonder what many on here expect? Yes we want to be getting results and even taking the odd defeat as long as it's done with a bit of fight and class, but honestly on here I would say 70-80% of our squad are already prejudged or tainted either after few games or before they even play. What is the point of bothering to follow the Wall if everything looks so bleak? We have had a decent start, better than for a few seasons, rejoice???
