Huddersfield block Scannell's deadline-day Millwall move

HUDDERSFIELD have refused to sell Sean Scannell to Millwall on deadline day.

The winger told the Terriers that he wanted to join the Lions and met with chairman Dean Hoyle on Monday afternoon in the hope of being granted his wish.

But Huddersfield have instead pulled the plug on the deal and told the winger he is not for sale.

The Yorkshire club originally accepted a bid for Scannell on Friday but backed out of talks after a change of heart.

Boss Ian Holloway remains keen to sign the former Crystal Palace trainee and is likely to revive his interest in January.

Absolutely shocking, the guy doesn't want to play for Huddersfield (understandable) and wants to join Ollie's revolution, Mr Hoyle you need to let the boy leave or let him go for even less in January!!!

So lightning strikes twice and we miss out on Smith and Scannell.. Surely something must be wrong with our approach? We can grab a player from non league but when trying to buy from clubs around us we don't show them the money maybe?

Sure IH has other targets for short term but does feel like a knock in the teeth after a positive start to the season.

@MFC Lion: oh and if the lad wants to join us wait until the last year of his contract runs out and pick him up on a free.

Huddersfield will sell Danny Ward to Wolves but back out of a deal for Scannell to Millwall - sounds about right! Why is it when it comes to Millwall wanting to buy a player from a team in the same division it feels like other clubs seem to be reluctant to deal only then to deal the same player to another club in the near future. So many Chairman afraid of little old Millwall mounting a promotion push maybe? I don't think so but Smith will no doubt end up at Fulham now and Scannell will go elsewhere too come January - probably Brentford!

Also what's the point of having Mathias "Reggie" Ranégie on loan from Watford till January because he is here for first team football and to find that purple scoring patch that will inevitably mean come Jan Watford will either raise his transfer price to silly amounts or simply take him back into their squad to mount their own promotion push. We don't seem to learn from the Chris Wood saga on that front. Would of liked to seen Olly bring in a big striker on a perm instead so to call our own.

@Bexley_Lion: perhaps we have a clause where we have the option to sign him on a perm in Jan?

Shame if we don't and proves successful for us but likewise if he's useless he's leaving soon.

@Bexley_Lion: And what big striker do you suggest we bring in bearing in mind the amount of money we have to spend.
The way people talk on here they think ollie is some kind of mug when it comes to transfers, well the length of time he has been a manager plus two promotion,s to the premiership with very little money i dont think so somehow.
Instead of knocking him and the club, lets give some names of who you would bring in.
It,s not olie's fault that both leed's and huddsfield decided not to sell

Damn, would have been nice to have picked him up today, but not to worry we have January to hopefully snatch him, that is if he still wants to join us.

Have heard lots of people speak about this guy on here in recent weeks, and I thought I'd give my thoughts. Scannell is a very good player, he's got pace and can dribble past players. We lack real pace in the team, so he would be perfect. Also people talking about his goal record, however he is not STRIKER! yes he can play there if needed, but he is primarily a wide player!!! Really gutted that Huddersfield blocked his move yesterday (had my eye on him for a while for us) hopefully we'll be able to grab him in January. Have a good day my fellow lions!!! 🙂
