Millwall complete loan signing of Watford striker Ranegie

IAN Holloway's search for a new forward has reached a successful conclusion with Watford's Mathias Ranegie signing on loan until January.

NewsAtDen revealed two weeks ago that the Swedish star was on boss Holloway's list of targets, and a deal has now been agreed between the two clubs and the player.

The Lions finalised a financial package with the Hornets on Tuesday, clearing Holloway to hold talks with the 30-year-old yesterday afternoon.

And after a short delay, Ranegie has now committed his short-term future to the club and is likely to make his debut against Blackpool this weekend.

Meanwhile, Millwall forward John Marquis has joined Cheltenham on loan.

Marquis, who played 90 minutes in the Lions' 2-0 defeat by Southampton in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday, will remain with the League Two club for one month.

@dpendet: I agree to some extent. If Millwall pulled their finger out we could of signed someone like Miller or Sharp. As for our so called second signing we know it will be Pennant and not Scannell because the club don't spend money

@Dazi: not sure i agree that people saying we should sign better. Yes we all would like it but we arent a cash rich club, our attendance is low, and restricted by financial fare play. In our position, we have no choice but to take chances on less desirable players. Some wont make the cut, some, like williams and edwards are proving priceless. We should get behind these new boys and let the mighty wall army inspire them

Well looking at that vidio, he's scoring those goals with both feet,he takes em with whatever foot the ball comes to him on,so that's a good sign.looks a bully and puts himself about, and decent in the air,so yeah looks well worth a try. Maybe he is just what we need and maybe we are just what he needs.

Don't think the opposition defences were great in the videos butbhe did hit the target which our current forwards still have difficulty doing. Good to see Marquis on loan hopefully does well and maybe get a deal as he is not a Championship player.

One thing he look's a millwall type player, big strong, will put his head in where it hurt's.
I for one will give him time to settle in and hopefully he will do the business for us,then we can worry about whether we want to keep him or not.
One big problem i can see with him is,he put's himself about and is aggressive ,will the referee's have a field day in penalizing him, after all ref's are against us before they arrive at the den.

Watching that video, he looks like he very much likes to play "off the shoulder of the defenders" ( im sure thats how gregory likes to play ?) so im now starting to think 1- if he dont get on the score sheet enough between now and january hes gonna be swapped more than often with lee G and 2- if any of the forwards dont start scoring then perhaps IH needs to address the supply (and demand!) from the midfield to the frontline? ....... F##k i hope they find their range and the net COYL

Cant help but b abit disappointed! This fella may well do a decent job for us but he defo isn't the prolific goalscorer we so desperately need! Ranegie will get the support from the fans I jus hope he turns it on!! Btw wat did he even do for watford, did he even play much & if not then It'll probs take him a while to get goin similar to the hoff!! I trust holloway & I like the way he does things but weve needed goals since last season & now I'd prob say were weaker up top now than we was last season!!

To make maximum use of him and Gregory IH should consider changing to a 4-1-3-2 formation so that one of them plays just behind the other. Don't see any point in signing him if he is going to persist with a lone striker formation because only Fuller, Gregory or him are going to be in the starting eleven. He could just be the partner Gregory needs to start scoring goals and he might score a few himself as well..

So we've got Ranegie, Fuller and Gregory now. I'd say give them and Ollie a chance. After Saturday, we'll have Bailey and Upson back, will have sent another few out on loan-Wright, Hoyte and Shittu I'm talking to you- if Shittu can get fit enough to actually play football that is. Good squad, excellent manager, great kids coming through and adding it all up, I'm really sure it's going to be better than last season. Keep the faith.

@mfcmike: I remember when IH first came here he said we had too many senior players in the squad so his signings to date include Edwards,36, Fuller,34 and now Renegie, 30. He also said he intended to sign young players who we could sell on. I thought he meant players released from the Premiership Academies or in their early 20's but none of his signings so far fall into that category. I think he is doing a good job but he also contradicts himself a lot the above comments being just two examples.

What the fk is happening to this site? It's getting like a school playground or a night out with a Palace fan. I thought we all supported the same side? Not an inspiring signing and smacks a bit of desperation but he deserves a chance before he's written off.

lets give him a chance but IH needs to give Grrgory a fair chance also before he allows a journeyman to keep him on the bench until he leaves us in january for a bigger club same as wood and the leicester guy who ended up at wigan cant think of his name at the moment.

Looking at the Watford boards they are not that happy that he has gone as most people seemed to rate him. Given our financial restrictions I am happy with this and think he could do well. One word of warning, a few Watford fans commented on him looking a bit casual on the field which is something that wont go down well at the Den.

We have just come off the back of a long unbeaten run that also helped save us from relegation. In my book that was down to Ollie. I see no reason not to trust him on what players he needs. If he has decided Ranegie is good for us then I have no reason to doubt it!

First choice of IH was Matt Smith who we put a bid in for, as Ih wants to build for the future. We couldn't get him so IH pursued his 2nd choice, who was only available on loan.

They are similar in size and stature, so IH obviously has a plan to play a big fella with Gregory....

Rhis is real life not a fantasy football league where you can get who you want when you want.
If Leeds or Watford do not want to sell then we have to accept the situation
