Abdou's revival is a major boost for Millwall, says Holloway

LIONS fans are seeing the best of Jimmy Abdou again, Ian Holloway believes.

Abdou featured just twice in the final ten matches of last season but forced his way back into Holloway's plans over the summer.

And the midfielder has helped the Lions win their first three fixtures of the new season.

"He was fantastic in pre-season," Holloway said. "What I wanted to do was control where he goes and what he does, rather than just let him run everywhere.

"Jimmy wants to close down two or three people all at once but we're keeping a much better shape now because he closes one down and then gets back into the shape."

Holloway says the arrival of fellow Francophone Magaye Gueye has made a big difference to Abdou's off-field happiness.

"I think he is happier now because he's got a couple of other French fellas to talk with. He had that before under Kenny Jackett when he played his best football for Millwall.

"That's great for him and he's playing well.

"I've always liked Jimmy, even since I took him at Plymouth, and he'll get better because the more we do it the more he'll understand what I want his role to be.

"The players we have brought in this summer have been just as vital as the ones who were already in my squad and have kicked on."

you won't find a player to work harder and give everything on the field. and yet again he's fought his way back in like dunne and showed everyone what it means to have the shirt. model professional and a f****** great lad! even when his son was critically ill with leukemia he managed to get back to play saturdays from france when jackett was here. how many players does anyone know that care so much about the club they play for? from what i have seen so far he would be one of the first names on the team sheet. well done jimmy keep going mate, millwall legend in my eyes!

Jimmy has been great this season, he has always had a great first touch but it was his passing and ball retention that let him down. He has done exactly what was asked of him and improved those aspects of his game. The legend continues.

Can't see why anyone would have a bad word to say about Jimmy. He'll run his b******* off for you 10 times out of 10 and now is adding quality to his game under Holloway. If I'm not mistaken his contract runs out this year so I hope they'll sort that out sooner rather than later.

At times last season I thought maybe Olly didn't see Jimmy in his plans or the system he wanted to play ,but im so glad the lad has fought his way back into the team ive noticed his passing has improved and he is a lot more adventurous .
At Fulham his name was sung more than any other player by our fantastic support that speaks volumes on a day the whole team played well , he has always been one of my favourite Wall players and im hoping this season he will surprise us all by going past 3 defenders and scoring a wonder goal and if that happens im not sure I will be able stop myself running on the pitch to congratulate him .
From Somalia via France to the old kent road what a fantastic story Jimmy Abdou is certainly one of our own .

Probably a bench warmer when Bailey and Upson are available, but been great this year.

@beedoscores: the way jim is playing.mite be bailey or upson warming the bench.cos to drop him merely cos the other 2 are fit would be wrong.

@Jim28: well you are not wrong Jim. Abdou has been great this season, I have been amongst his critics but this new disciplined roll giving simple effective passes really is at the heart of the teams success. Well done Jimmy keep it up son.

Good lad Jimmy, well done. I tell you what our midfield is looking strong!! When you have Bailey, Upson, Chaplow(When Fit), Williams, Abdou and the young kid Powell vying for 2 central midfield roles, the strength and depth in our midfield is encouraging, likewise in our defense. We just need to get a our forward line sorted out.
