Preview: Millwall vs. Leeds United

RICARDO Fuller is poised to make his Millwall debut in the season-opener against Leeds United on Saturday.

The striker, signed on a free transfer from Blackpool this summer, is expected to lead the line for the Lions in the first game of the new Championship campaign.

That could mean £250,000-arrival Lee Gregory will be forced to settle for a place on the bench.

Ian Holloway has lost midfielder Nicky Bailey to a calf strain in the build up to the game.

Bailey started alongside Jimmy Abdou in last Friday's pre-season friendly against Real Mallorca before limping off shortly before half time.

Shaun Williams looks likely to replace Bailey in the side.

Ed Upson and Richard Chaplow are also sidelined with minor muscle strains, but otherwise Holloway has a fully-fit squad to select from.

Alan Dunne was announced as Millwall's new captain on Thursday and would appear to be a guaranteed starter at centre back.

Leeds will be without summer signing Tommaso Bianchi at The Den.

The midfielder has been told he must serve a suspension which he picked up whilst playing in Italy last season.

Former Lions striker Steve Morison is expected to start for the visitors, but winger Aidy White is suffering with an ankle problem.

The Whites have until midday tomorrow to complete a deal for Juventus defender Frederik Sorensen if he is to feature.

@S20:Get over yourself bruv, nothing to do with it being Leeds. Felt the same against Yeovil last season. To be honest going to Wembley is a little old hat nowadays, been there so many times in recent years its like our 2nd home.........

Hold on a minute… Dunne starting? Why was he made captain if he's only gonna play CH now but we have Webster who is a better natural CH? Would've made bailey captain personally

@Alex Aldridge: That doesn't mean he cant play 433 with Gregory in the middle and Fuller and either Martin or Woolford rotating Fuller and Gregory every now and then I think that could be very affective

How I think we will start tomorrow.. Forde, Dunne, Beevers, Webster, Edwards, Malone, Abdou, Williams, Martin, Fuller, Woolford.. An attacking 3-4-3 formation with the wing-backs providing the support to both the forward and back 3... How do you guys think we'll set up?

@Longfield Lion: I completely agree mate!! But I just don't see Ollie starting Gregory in this game. Talk about chucking the kid in at the deep end if he did! With an attacking 3-4-3 formation I can see plenty of threat, whilst also giving the option of 2 strikers later on.. This formation could easily turn into 4-4-2, With Dunne slotting in at RB, Malone (Or possibly Briggs after 65 minutes) at LB, Woolford takes Edwards place at RM, Abdou and Williams CM, Martin LM, Fuller and Gregory up front... One substitution and we have a complete different formation if the occasion calls for it 🙂

@Longfield Lion: it will look like one when defending and three when going forward, and three mobile centre backs with overlapping wingers and two holding the middle. He will play a 3-4-2-1 or a 3-4-3 but like I said it's the same.

Dunney deserves to be Captain IMO. Teams don't always have their best players as captain , just the best man for job. He deserves it. A lot of us crave Loyalty , heart , passion and desire over natural ability and then dismiss Dunney when he gets the job. Strange.
    Anyway , COYL !!!

I don't trust dune at centre back because he's too small. Especially against a team with smith and Morison, I think he will struggle, unless accompanied by beevers and Webster or even shittu, but that looks unlikely

one of the things I'm hoping for this season is the referees play it a little fairer. some of the decisions last season where an absolute joke. i know the old chestnut of "we only get s*** refs" but enough is enough. if we are to have a reasonable season we also need fairer refs. it probably won't happen but you never know.

According to Daily Mirror, Millwall are amongst favourites to be relegated this season, let's prove them wrong! Although I doubt we can be amongst promotion contenders unless we can find a decent goalscorer I am confident of a place in the top half. Good luck today lads!
