Bircham vows Millwall will fear no-one in the Championship

FIRST team coach Marc Bircham is tipping Derby to challenge for the title this season – but insists Millwall will fear none of their Championship opponents.

Bircham expects the Rams to be fighting for promotion after they lost last year's play-off final but says that, otherwise, the division is wide open.

"There wasn't much difference between the teams in the top half and the teams in the bottom half – that's why it's such a strong division," he said.

"Nobody is going to run away with the league and you can’t say which three will definitely go down either.

"I think Derby will do well because they only just missed out and I know Steve McClaren well from my time at QPR. He'll have them playing well.

"But we want other teams to worry about us – that has to be our mentality. We'll show teams respect but we won't fear anyone."

Millwall kick-off their campaign against Leeds United at The Den on Saturday.

There has been a dramatic overhaul of personnel at Elland Road this summer, rendering the Whites a bit of an unknown quantity under new head coach David Hockaday.

"It's a fantastic first game," Bircham added. "I don’t think we could have picked a better one to start the season with.

"The fans will be right up for it because the atmosphere against Leeds is always good – and we're possibly playing them at a good time as well.

"It's all in our favour because we're at home and we'll get a great crowd behind us, so it's just up to the lads to get the result."

"It's quite difficult to second-guess them so we have to nail down our roles and responsibilities and be confident about our own set-up."

Time to make teams hate coming to the DEN again. Let them worry about us and give em hell.

Everyone has to be at the leeds game unless they have a valid excuse, the club have done what we have asked of them by bringing in a good manager after lomas, they are showing ambitition, it has been a long time since we've seen it! So now it's time to repay them by getting down there and getting behind millwall, if we want our club to be a success we have to get behind them. COYL! A nice boring season will do me, anything above that is a bonus!

Personally I would like the Den to b a lot scarier and louder this season I know we have not had much to cheer about in the seasons previous but im pretty positive about what is going on at the club and would love to see the Den rocking again come Saturday .
I remember the Huddersfield game in the playoffs a couple of seasons back the atmosphere was fantastic constant noise from every side of he ground it sounded more like 40,000 in there , its rumoured Lee Clark was so shook up he came out for the second half wearing incontinence pants .
So come Saturday none of that sitting down rubbish please lets send united back to Yorkshire heartbroken and slightly deaf .
