Millwall midfielder set to miss Leeds opener with calf strain

NICKY Bailey has been sidelined for ten days with a calf strain.

Manager Ian Holloway confirmed on Tuesday that a scan on the midfielder's leg had revealed a small muscle tear, and that he will now miss Saturday's season-opener against Leeds United.

Bailey was on the end of a heavy tackle during a friendly with Real Mallorca last week.

Holloway also revealed that Ed Upson will have a scan later today on a suspected muscle problem, while Richard Chaplow will miss the Leeds game with a strain.

So that's 3 center mids out for Saturday. Leaves us with Abdou, Williams and, er, Wright. At least there's no Garvan this time around. Gutted for Bailey, hopefully we don't rush him back like Robbo.

Leeds will be a tough game. Gutted for Bailey though, was rooting for him to get the captaincy. However theres still plenty of players who can fill in. McDonald played really well in that position against Real Mallorca, and jimmy and wright also had good games. Still plenty of talkers in the side, like Edwards, Fuller, Webster etc. Upson and Chaplow would not have started anyway. Lets just see how we do on Saturday, COYL

That's if OLLIE is telling the truth of course, cos this just might be him just playing games knowing LEEDS are watching and listening. As for CHAPLOW his legs just seem to have gone, physically he just doesn't seem up to it, his days look numbered, shame, good player but fragile.

No different to the start to any previous seasons. It can only happen to us, but just got to get on with it and get the three points. At Bailey's injury isn't a serious one.

FFS!!! Every year we start out with a crocked squad! Bailey did this to himself though..... should have stayed down instead of being some big-time-charlie hardman and getting to his feet double quick for a tear up!! Hope he can get back to fitness quick!! None of this 2/3 months BS again!! COYL!!

It's s disappointment but reckon we can cope without them for the Leeds game Still think we need a top striker been on sky sports today Charlton could be signing a striker for 2.4million we have ended up with a few free agents again this summer and unless ur prepared to spend on some quality we are never going to be up top end of table goals win you games simple as that

@MFC DAN90: your right these teams like Charlton , Rotherham and brentford or birmingham are buying these decent players , but we can't sign a goal scorer I'm hearing that reading are interested in Simon cox for 600,000 maybe we could afford that money to get him

Briggs can play in baileys position & maggie can play the attacking midfield role & when he gets tied bring on Fred. Sorted

Chaplow is a liability just pay him off ffs.

This is a perfect time for Wright to show how much he's improved. And O'Brien + Macdonald can takeover for Upson

@Peckhamlad: There are a few permutations available. Williams and Abdou are certain starters. Powell is a possibility for the other midfield place or Briggs could play there. If an attacking player is required then there are even more options. Fred, Gueye, McDonald , O'Brien so hopefully we have enough players in the squad to cover midfield because there are still 41 games to go after Saturday. My main concern is that if a similar thing happened with our current strikers the cupboard is bare.

@jasoncleftpallett: Yeah, sorry about that. I thought we were in the Premiership or do they play more than 42 games a season as well? Totally confused now!!!

Give it to Jimmy, I thought on Friday he was a much improved player especially if we have his mate Maggie in the team, at the Leeds lads will not have a clue what they are saying to each other on the pitch.

Bailey and Upson are both big loses for Saturday.....Chaplow is as bad as that old yid sicknote Darren anderton so I couldn't give a t*** about him ......but everyone seems to have forgotten woolford....with him and Martin on the wings, Jimmy playing deep in midfield we then have Williams who can knock the ball about, maggie who looks class, McDonald who seems to have adopted a more attacking midfield roll under holloway....there's plenty of options there in midfield to turn Leeds over Saturday!! Buzzing for kick off....miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
