Matthew Briggs completes Millwall move after reviving talks

A CHANGE of heart has seen Matthew Briggs become a Millwall player tonight.

The left back had been on trial with the Lions for three weeks of pre-season training but turned down a contract offer from Ian Holloway.

The 23-year-old looked set to join Blackpool but arrived at The Den for further talks on Friday before signing a one-year deal.

NewsAtDen understands that the ex-Fulham defender rejected a more lucrative offer from the Tangerines to further his development under Holloway.

He was on trial he would have been perfectly entitled to have a look at what's on offer.

If as reported he's turned down a higher offer elsewhere to sign for us then excellent welcome aboard

@MIGHTY: You can't blame Briggs for changing his mind whatever the reason is, but by the same token you wouldn't blame Millwall for doing exactly the same.

If he wants to come to us then he should prove it by signing a decent length contract that could be terminated our end after say six months if he doesn't make the grade

cannot see many others takers for him

@MIGHTY: this smells more and more of his agent p****** about then the player himself. To say it has left a stink would be a under statement

If he is willing to reject a bigger wage to come and learn football under Holloway then he's a smart kid. I don't blame him for seeing what else was out there. I also don't feel like we are second best.

He's been well advised, it's not all about the money, he can go to great things from Millwall, and if we can make a few bob as well even better. He is perfectly entitled to weigh up the options.

Hopefully he has seen the light! Realised that Blackpool is not the club for him and he will get better football at Millwall. If IH has faith in him then that's good enough. Rather we get a striker though.

@Peckhamlad: if he's so good and available for free why is it only us and Blackpool want him ? Turned down more money at Blackpool to join us , as Del Boy might say ' I smell Bull S**T !

the truth will out about this eventually i hope it's good intentions on his part and not that he's got nowhere else to go? if he's decided that he's been a bit silly turning it down and changed his mind then fair play welcome aboard! if he's come running back with his tail between his legs then boy you got some f****** convincing and winning over to do.

Not to sure on this lad but whatever happens happens.. Darius henderson 3 year deal at 32 years old for orient, madness! To be fair i thought olly should have tried to land him on loan or permenant year contract.. Good player will score goals for orient no doubt

The way I read this is that Blackpool offered more money but Millwall offered him the chance to learn his trade & improve more under olly for less.

Fair enough, Can't criticise him for looking at all his available options, so I wont hold that against him by any means.

I've been critical of him, especially his attitude and effort, but if he is actually willing to listen to Ollie (and his advisers?), and make a decision based on football not money, then I'll happily give him my complete and full support. (Like I would anyone wearing the 'Wall shirt.)

As I said in previous article... could become a good player if he ever gives a monkey's.

The boys a baller......!! Fully entitled to weigh up his options before making a decision. Would appear he's made the right one. Great signing for Millwall. Great cover for Malone, as he can be prone to the odd niggle, and could play at LM or CB. well done boy

As I've said gawd knows how many times - do your talking on the pitch & make sure you become a fan's favourite. Talking of which I hope Bailey gets the captaincy this season as he looks very hungry. COYL!!!

Tried to start a f*****g auction & failed . Realised no one really fancies him as much as he fancies himself (apart from Black Poo), so settled for the only sensible option. I might have faith in Ollie, but this herbert needs to be something special, because so far he is looking a prize C***T !

@frank: Dear Frank where do you get your info from? Blackpool are in a downward spiral, we on the other hand are going the other way. Give the boy a chance, and trust Holloway. Don't judge everybody by your own standards!!

Bottom line is he left us for more money only people offering more was Blackpool but the difference in wages isn't worth putting up with that circus for a season and inevitably getting relegated. Leeds and Blackpool nailed on for the chop this season pure pandemonium (rarely get to use that word)

Seems to me another piece of excellent persuasion by Ollie. The lad has been told he needs to knuckle down and work hard to become a decent footballer. He has chose that option over more money. Welcome aboard Son. COYL
