Defender Nelson can be a future "commando" – Millwall boss

MILLWALL manager Ian Holloway believes 18-year-old defender Sid Nelson has the potential to become "the future of the club".

Nelson played the first 45 minutes of Saturday's pre-season friendly against Stevenage and was hugely impressive at the heart of the Lions' back four.

The young centre back was dominant in the air, firm but fair in the tackle and composed on the ball against the League Two side.

And Holloway said after the game that Nelson, who skippered Millwall's U18s last season, has the talent to challenge for a first-team place over the coming years.

The Lions boss said: "Sid was absolutely terrific. I'd seen that from him in training.

"That's why he played on Saturday and that's why Paul Robinson and Danny Shittu played at Bromley instead.

"They are both great professionals but who is the future of this club? They are both out-of-contract next summer, so am I going to keep them or bring Sid through?

"What I have got to do is facilitate cheap generic lexapro online Robbo and Danny moving on and I'll do it in a way that it totally respectful because I respect what they've done for Millwall.

"But you have to strike a balance between who's coming through and who's moving out."

Asked whether Nelson may need to cut his teeth in the lower leagues before he can turn out for Millwall in the Championship, Holloway added:

"I might be formulating my plans for Sid as we speak.

"But when someone like that comes through I have to decide whether he is better than the senior players ahead of him.

"It's all about their development, so some of the young ones will be loaned out.

"What I want to do is make them my commandos of the future so that they are strong and brave enough to play for Millwall.

"I want us to be a formidable unit in the future so my focus is on the younger group, to love them up and make sure they get what they need."

My son is a year younger than Sid, and I remember bringing him to Villacourt as a 5 year old to get some football training. Even then, all the parents were saying what a great player Sid was ... I think he got scouted by Millwall as soon as he was old enough, and has been with them ever since. Good to see youth coming through.

Think Sid could be a future Millwall captain loved what ive seen so far very confident and strong I trust Ollies judgement my only worry would be talk of learning his trade in the lower leagues personally I would rather see him improving in a Millwall shirt please Mr Holloway.
