Leeds United owner has no plans to part with Millwall target

LEEDS United's new owner expects Matt Smith to stay at Elland Road.

Millwall earmarked the striker as their top transfer target at the beginning of the summer and saw an opening bid turned down in June.

The Lions have not returned with a second offer as Leeds continue to insist in private that Smith is not for sale.

NewsAtDen understands the Yorkshire side have placed a substantial price tag on the 25-year-old's head despite there being less than a year remaining on his contract.

And Italian supremo Massimo Cellino has said Smith is in Leeds' plans.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "Smith is growing, he’s a nice player and I think he wants to stay. A new forward is coming to help (Steve) Morison, (Noel) Hunt and Smith."

This Cellino bloke is all mouth and trousers. We'll see what develops. I don't think this is dead yet.

Never know where you are day after day.

If the deal can't be done or they are asking for too much dosh...let's move on to our next target, Hollaway must surely have a plan b, if we like him so much we can negotiate with him in January and get him for free, but is he worth waiting for?

@terry_hurlock: I think he is worth the wait but I can't see us trying so openly again, this is his chance or I reckon Ollie will move on.

This guy reminds me of the Southampton chairman who was nightmare for Lions to deal with a few years back.

Makes you appreciate JB all the more.

I pity Hockaday working for him ...

If he's not leaving let's just move on!
On the other hand, I've just read that Tim Cahill is thinking of a move back to English gootball. After that World Cup performance I think he's still got it in him to come back down the den for one last season! Like this if you'd like to see Timmy Cahill back down the Den for one last time to have a real crack at promotion!

@mfcmike: he is an intelligent lad and I believe came through University before turning pro (check that), big unit but needs a run in a team to get experience. Can score goals and a real handful for defences. I reckon, barring injuries, he would be a great signing.

I read the article one part of it said he's staying the other said he wouldn't fit in with the way their manager wants to play. I think he is trying to push the price up. F*** em.

@wolla5: Sounds like we should put Denzel in goal too! (listening on lions player...) As I'm writing, Easter scores a pen - also sounds like we're performing better overall than against dartford...? Anybody at the game...?
