Fuller to discuss Millwall deal but Zamora close to QPR stay

© Actionplus

IAN Holloway has confirmed that Millwall are in talks to sign Ricardo Fuller.

But another striker target, Bobby Zamora, has told Holloway he will be signing a contract extension with QPR instead of moving to The Den.

Zamora met with the Lions boss last week to discuss a possible switch to south London – but the 33-year-old is poised to stay at Loftus Road.

However, Holloway is hopeful that Fuller, 34, will agree terms in the coming days.

"Ricardo was in today to have a chat. His agent is now talking to Andy Ambler about maybe offering him something," the Millwall manager said.

"But I think we will need another striker personally.

"It could have been Zamora and Fuller – two big ones and they could have played in the same frontline and they'd have bought John Marquis and Aiden O'Brien some time.

"If it's not going to be Bobby and Fuller, it will be Fuller and someone else.

"Bobby called me this morning – he's going to re-sign for QPR so that it is a definite. It was great to chat to him and we were serious about trying to get him.

"He had the decency to ring me first so good montauk-monster.com/pharmacy/zithromax luck to him. I'll be moving on and trying to find someone else.

"It's a really strange balance that I've got in the squad. I think some of these kids will come through but at the front end of my team I need a big, strong and experienced type.

"I feel pretty relaxed with four weeks to go until the season starts."

Fuller has come highly recommended from Crystal Palace coach David Kemp – who worked with the frontman at Stoke.

Holloway also sounded out Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks about the Jamaican.

"When you get to 34 like Ricardo has, people say things which sometimes aren't true so it's best to find out about him yourself," Holloway explained.

"I now know how genuine a fella he is and how hard he wants to work for me – he played 28 times last season so there's no issue there.

"We need a blend of youth and experience. He's 6ft 1in and he can do all sorts of things for me. Hopefully he'll help me with this group if I can get him signed up."

let's face it, it's not the name we all want to see, but I trust Holloway.

His signings and tactics have all been successful so far so keep the faith!

If we can get a solid 20 games out of him then why not?

@dpendet: a ridiculous statement - he has scored goals in the Premier League and if IH gives him a clear role of linking play he can be useful - a year younger than Edwards and no reason why we can't get one big season out of him if 'supporters' do just that.
Keep the negativity to what you see on the pitch - judge people then

@dpendet: we have all seen him play - but as I say, it is a team game and it is how he is played and how he can be motivated - he can have an attitude problem so its about keeping him focussed - if IH can do that we could get 20 or so performances out of him - he is talented if his head is screwed on - all I am saying is give him a chance -

Must just be me who thinks he could be a decent signing. He won't play week in, week out but he will offer something different and experience to an otherwise young and inexperienced front-line. Players like O'Brien, Gregory and even Marquis will learn from him. He's been signed as a different option, not as a starter in my opinion. Would still like us to sign another striker though even if it's a loanee, with another winger and defender, assuming Shittu/Robinson on there way out.

We dont need another defender really.

LB-Malone, Williams (played there often for MK DONS) and Beevers (as a last resort)
      CB-Beevers Webster Dunne Goodman Williams
      RB-Edwards Dunne Hoyte

@MillwallChorister: Good point, though I prefer Williams more central, be it centre back or centre midfield. Not a necessity that's for sure but that extra Left back wouldn't be argued against. For me Beevers has to play centrally, though as you say as a last resort maybe.

Yeh I agree one more as cover would be ideal but I am much more concerned about signing strikers and wingers. I agree about Beevers being much better in the centre and Williams I also agree looks better there but just options.

If things are true Leeds are trying to get Nile Ranger in, will this pave the way for smith?

Unsure about Fuller, on his day can score but them days dont come that often anymore for him, but in Ollie I trust.

@Dannyboy10: Smith played in a Leeds reserve team against their first team two days ago. If he needed a push to leave and join us, I'd say that was it. A Fuller/Smith/Gregory strikeforce still looks lighweight to me.

Why isn't the new fella from Halifax getting his chance? Why does IH think that two journeymen up front for us will work? I'm baffled. Why buy the Halifax geezer who let's face it & despite his lack of Championship experience, at least has an enviable goalscoring record? Does IH now think he won't cut it at this level?

Fuller has been a goalscorer and played at the top level, his experience could be what Gregory needs to become the finished article....I hope anyway!

Can't say I am excited by Fuller, surely we can attract better than him. If it has to be, make it a short term deal till Xmas so we can offload the joker when his figures show 10 appearances and 0 goals.

it doesn't matter what his stats say if we win games - it is a team game - didn't you see how an organised passionate team like USA can play so well as opposed to the stars of Brazil - in all this talk of strikers people forget we have Macdonald still with us - there is a limit to how much we can spend - If IH says Fuller has shown the right attitude so far then he should know - as we have seen with the Hoff IH doesn't suffer people who think they are bigger than the team - if Fuller is fully committed this year he can help us to mid-table, which is all we can expect

Underwhelming at best. Of course Fuller will sign for us, no other club in the Championship want him! If he was so effective why haven't either or both Charlton and Blackpool tried to sign him back on a permanent deal?

Also sounded like Olly was going to plum for two expensive journeymen in Fuller and Zamora at one point instead of actively pursuing up and coming Smith from Leeds who would be a great signing to play alongside Gregory. Don't give up on signing him just yet Olly!

      @Bexley_Lion:

the reality is that there is very little to choose between the talents of most players at this level - it is about being totally committed each week and winning those tight games where a bit of character and hard work makes the difference - if any player shows outstanding ability then he be going to the Prem. so we won't get him any way - so give Fuller a chance - if he is fired up he can be a handful - we can get 25 performances out of him - he has over 30 Premier League goals - he can set the play up for Gregory , Easter and whoever else is coming - Of course it is not ideal, but our team ethic has to win against the bigger buys of other sides

Let Holloway assemble the team that he thinks Will be competitive this season & let's see where we end up & Judge him then & not before a ball has been kicked in anger.

Given the fact that Holloway & Zamora obviously like each other and Millwall's previous use of the loan market, maybe there's a chance of borrowing him whilst QPR cover the the bulk of his silly wage for what is probably his final year with them. Would also give him the chance to prove his value to prospective bidders !

Doesnt fill me with joy but at some point during the season when we have injuries, suspensions and fatigue then someone like fuller could be beneficial on the pitch and behind the scenes he would be pivatal to the likes of pavey, o'brien and marquis.
I'm pretty sure thats the thinking behind this as IH has said he will bring another one in if RF signs.
Not too concerned about him signing tbh, he battered us at blackpool last season. He does offer something different coming off the bench when we are in need of a nasty bast#+d battering ram who dont give a t#%s about the opo.

He isn't a goalscorer, he is a target man who links the play. Judging his goalscoring is missing the point of 80% of his game.

Over the last two seasons he is averaging 1 goal and 2 assists every 4 games (based on minutes played.)
He was also the most fouled player on his team each season (again based on minutes played.)
He will play the last 20mins, do the dirty work and chip in with a few vital goals. If we need him to do any more than that, we will sign someone else, which Ollie has hinted at heavily.

Not sure why anybody thought things were going to change just because we have a media friendly manager? We've signed journeymen and loanees for as long as I've supported, some good, some very good, some bad, some very bad and some Rob Hulse! If you are already in the 'in Ollie we trust' camp you can't start moaning at the first signing you disagree with before they've even wore the shirt!

@lowdown: he hasnt been prolific in either colour, so maybe, just maybe, blue will be the colour to change that.
Every striker has a freak goal scoring season.

        @lukesmithmfc:
        Yep, you may be right.
        Perhaps Blue IS the colour!

Of course, my post was just jesting. On the budget and wages at Millwall
it will be really hard to bring in a real net buster, although Smith
does look like he might have potential. But who know's,
after all..... we are all just Armchair gaffers.

Even if fuller turns out to be pony we have got to give him a chance. I hate people who moan and say I aint going anymore, cause if we were to sign eleven fullers you should still go. Supporting Millwall means supporting Millwall even as we are use to through thin and thin. COYL.

@lion01: Claridge and Dublin were quality players throughout their careers, this guy is not. As someone posted no one else is in the frame for his "skills"so why not come here 'cos we're an easy touch. Perhaps we can get Hulse back to partner him, right win double there.
Easter, Marquis, Fuller, McDonut what a scary strike force that is, the opposing defenders will be p****** themselves. We couldn't score last year with those three goal machines (haha) McD, Fixer and that Canadian t***.

I remember reading comments like " You couldn't make it up" , "We are a laughing stock " and " Holloway has totally lost the plot " when we signed the Austrian so I will definately trust Holloway again if he wants Fuller in rather than loads on here who never learn about slating people before they have seen them play and then proved wrong.
    Crack on Holloway.

I was not very happy when I heard about us being interested in Fuller I must admit, but then again did say on a previous post I would not be unhappy with Morrison coming back. Thinking about it in Ricardo we do have a very similar player. Ollie has certainly done his homework as to the type of fella he said ‘he has come highly recommended from Crystal Palace coach David Kemp - who worked with the front man at Stoke. Holloway also sounded out Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks about the Jamaican. "When you get to 34 like Ricardo has, people say things which sometimes aren't true so it's best to find out about him yourself," Let’s be honest like all the new signings, and come to that the old guard, we don’t know what he will be like in an Ollie type team, I do know that he always seemed to do well against us and if the reports are correct someone of his experience and attitude working alongside young Fred and the inexperienced Gregory may just be the role model we are looking for, and if he gets a hat trick against the anoraks what a laugh that will be! Give him a chance get behind him he is one of ours now.
