Millwall pipped to Sam Hutchinson signature by Wednesday

MILLWALL appear to have lost out on utility man Sam Hutchinson.

According to reports, Hutchinson has agreed a deal to sign for Sheffield Wednesday and will undergo a medical in Yorkshire this morning.

The Lions approached the 24-year-old about a move to The Den last month but manager Ian Holloway recently admitted he had not heard back from the defender.

Now Hutchinson seems destined for Hillsborough, where he finished last season on loan.

The terms of Hutchinson's agreement with the Owls is not known but it is believed Millwall were only prepared to offer him a one-year contract.

He has got to undergo a medical this morning. How does he pass that when he has a degenerative knee condition that retired him at 21years of age. How does that just go away?? Gonna be unavailable for a lot of games me thinks.

With his medical past it was only right to offer him a one year contract,so,hey ho we move on.
If he never had the good grace to contact the club on what he wanted to do ,then that shows the man has no respect for our club,as i say we move on.

Oh well, onwards and upwards then. If he wanted to play for the Wall he would have signed simple. So keep going Ollie you'll get the players that want to play for you and the Wall faithful.

Agree with only offering a 1 yr deal with his medical past .not that fussed tbh, onto the next target hopefully a striker and winger . In Ollie we trust .

Really not bothered about this to be honest. I can't imagine he would have even been on the radar if he wasn't a free agent. Priority is to get another striker in and add some pace on the wing. Once that's sorted we can look at picking up another "utility player" (another word for "cover" if you ask me) on a free or on loan.

I respect that we have taken caution on thus one. Can't wait for the season to start, let's hope a full house and a win against Leeds has a knock on effect to kick start the season and a winning streak could give people the buzz and keep coming every week. Could be a blessing!!!

A one year deal was the sensible option given the player's knee problems & previous injury record & good luck to him at Hillsborough.

It's one Ollie couldn't fish in but with our record of signing injured players it wouldn't have bode well for us anyway.

Well we miss out on this bloke, but there are other powerful midfielders. Theres this bloke called yaya toure who wants to leave his club? He would probably challenge bailey and williams for a 1st team spot

They're welcome to him with his dodgy knee and inflated wages - Don't think we really are in deperate need of this kind of player - Right winger and a big man up top need to take priority over a utility man!

Surely there should be more than 1 standard medical for a player who's retired through injury and then come back anyways??

if we have to shop cheap and get Hanson or Matt Smith as a target man, Ollie will have to improve them as players - from what we have seen they are both bottom Championship , upper League One players - Hopefully Ollie can develop their skills - as for Cedrick - never heard of him, but he sounds exotic so he must be good - get him

@timchimes: Thats our problem tim with our gates we do have to shop cheap,so IH will have to work with players he thinks he can improve,
Im sure some time ago the chairman said if we could average gates of 13,000 he would spend more, but thats a chicken and the egg argument, personally i do not blame JB for not spending, but alas we have to buy cheap so come on ollie do your stuff and im sure we will do ok this season.

@glyngo: i agree with you glyngo,i thought a year contract would have been a gamble worth taking, then if all was ok the boy would have had the upper hand in negotiations in any future contracts. The fact he chose the longer contract has shown he may not be confident of his own long term fitness, only time will tell.
There may be other reasons he did not want to join us,if so he should have had the good grace to let millwall know sooner, the only reason i can see for him to hang on so long, is to try for the longest contract he can get.

I'm taking some positives out of the fact that we have missed out on this kid and the winger(Cant remember his name) from Doncaster who went to Birmingham. It shows that we are going for players that other clubs rate. Last season, although we signed what was seen as quality at the time, you didn't see us competing with other clubs for their signature's! Since January our target's have been players that other clubs have been talking to Upson, Williams, Gregory, Edwards & Webster. All players that were talking to other clubs.

We cant win them all and maybe we didn't pursue this kid as hard as the other clubs because of his injury problems, On to the next one IH & AA and keep teeing them up MH.

Shame but could be a blessing that we didn't lumber ourselves with another sick note, could go either way. Yoi can't blame the lad for taking a 2 year deal & also showing some loyalty to the club he finished last season with.
Have been trying to figure out who we would be going for in the target man dept & did wonder about Hansen if available for a good price, he's young & could be improved by Ollie? Would still need someone a little more experienced for that role though I think?

My First post on here so be gentle with me pls
ive been reading this for a couple of years some great comments and banter from real Millwall fans
I wont be loosing any sleep over Hutchinson good player but we would probably do well to get 10 games a season from him would much prefer a consistent young player who can be part of what Ollie and the staff are trying to build at Millwall ...
