Exclusive: Millwall to return to Portugal for pre-season camp

MILLWALL will return to Portugal for a week of pre-season training in July.

The Lions spent five days in the Algarve in January following Ian Holloway's arrival, and the squad will be returning to the same complex in the summer.

Holloway confirmed: "It is really important that we prepare properly and get a couple of good weeks under our belts.

"We'll be going out there for the same period of time and the work will be just as intense but the lads already know an awful lot more about me because we've got them going now.

"It will be a recap but also a new experience for the players that I might add to the group. It will give us a chance to pick up where we left off."

No Go-carts this summer? How can we expect the lads to truly bond?

beats Lomas' philosophy of 'i dont believe in old skool pre-season, i prefer more ball work'. not an exact quote but he said something along those lines, no wonder everyone is injured, fat and useless for half a season

Here we go again! The last trip seem to be a waste of time and money.

Following the last trip which focused on fitness and tactics we stayed up!
In my opinion that was time and money will spent considering if we went down there would have been a significant loss of revenue from the Championship and from attendances.

@MillwallGra: i agree with what you say,the squad came back better both physically and mentaly and it showed,i dont think we deserverd some of the results that went against ,i thought it was money well spent, and so will this trip be.it will be interesting to see who gets on the plane.
      Hoyte ?
      Edwards i hope so.
Hof i am 50-50 about him,he brings a lot to the team by making space for others when he has 2 or some times 3 defenders marking him ,but he had a couple of spats with malone so is he disruptive.
then on the other hand look at his attitude when we score its really good no jealosy there.when woolford scored against b mouth ,both of his arms went up straight in and picked the ball up.you could see he is up for it with millwall.perhaps his spats are with frustration,so if IH can sort that part of his game out i would be all for him

@jim1222: Not sure they came back mentally stronger or fitter - we had three awful months before the great escape in April.

@Micky Lions: under lomas and harris when they went a goal down the players heads dropped.after portugal they began to battle on even though they were failing to get a result, thats what i mean by being mentally stronger.

        Can do one
        Edwards
All day long he is quality
        Hof
Right attitude but missed a wide open goal on Saturday so I am also 50-50
        Jackson
Also should have put away 2 on Saturday, I expected more goals from him and it didn't happen.
The rest of the squad (see link) needs some serious sorting out, I think that we should keep the core players, but we seriously need some proven goal scorers that can play the "Ollie way".

@MillwallGra: i have seen some of hofs past games on youtube,he can look top class or a bit if a pillock like he did when missing that goal,i think that kind of thing happens to big players, but what i have noticed is he nearly always has 2 or3 players marking him at set pieces, which leaves space for others to exploit.
