Millwall hopeful that Forde's thigh strain is not serious

©

IAN Holloway is hopeful that David Forde's muscle strain is not serious – but will be more than happy if Stephen Bywater starts against Sheffield Wednesday.

Forde was forced off during the win over Ipswich Town on Saturday after tweaking his thigh.

Holloway believes the 34-year-old has been over-working his leg muscles this campaign by pumping the ball forward too often – and wants to make changes to his distribution.

But the Lions manager was pleased with the performance of Bywater when he came off the bench against the Tractor Boys.

"Forde's strained a thigh muscle because he has been striking a long balls which drop where we won't take many risks," said Holloway.

"Hopefully he'll strain an arm muscle soon because I'll be getting him to throw it out.

"If you look at the two times we tried that against Ipswich, we did not have enough support and put ourselves under pressure.

"What should happen is the goalkeeper throws it out, we will do loads of little passes and then try to hit a switch across the field. We'll get there.

"Hopefully Fordey will be fine. But Bywater put in a fantastic performance – he came off the bench, freezing cold but looked like he'd started the game.

"I can't believe I have such good goalkeepers, I must say."

Should be throwing ball out everytime when the opportunity arises. One of Fords weaknesses, just hoofing it out you always risk the chance of the opposition gaining it back straight away. Suppose it could be Ford has no confidence in his defence to be able to use it effectively.

Great news about Fordey but I'm sure most of us have been telling (screeming) at him to stop booting the ball up field to no one or for the opposition CBs pick off. Also, I'm not too sure that we've got two good goalkeepers as Ollie says but I guess he can see things that we can't.
Anyone got any reports on how our boys are getting on at 'boot camp'?

Seem's like IH really want's to play football from the back, rather than long ball, also lowry said IH make's a player feel ten feet tall. From the above article i can see why.
I could not believe my eye's watching the Ipswich game first to the ball every time,Shittue and Lowry not fag paper between their performance's both MOM as far as i am concerned, which i was pleased about as i have been very critical of them in the past.
When i was walking back to my car i heard an ipswich supporter talking on his phone "they wanted it more than us and they deserved their win" is what he said,i thought that said it all.
This was a proper millwall performance imo,so well done lad's and keep it going.

I think the Ipswich game showed what a lot of us already know.

The team need proper leadership. They need to want it more than the other side. Not just turn up and hope. Without it they are only just Championship material. With it, they can really challenge in this league.

It was the same in Div 1 when they were promoted. They were a good team - made special by KJ. There were no real stars.

IH probably needs another 1 or 2 loan signings and shift some out.

Then if IH can do the same as KJ did in Div 1 with this lot and get into Morro's head, as he's already done with Lowry and Shittu, then they'll not only be safe but pushing top ten by end of season.

@Mo Slater Fruit and Veg: It's a bit odd that Jackett didn't sort him out before he left (Trotter too) but I suppose it depends on what Forde's contract demands are. Personally, I'm not a massive fan of the big man. He can have some good games but he is often caught out by long shots, which a keeper at his level shouldn't be. If he goes, so be it. It would be good to get a fee for him but there are plenty of keepers out there as good or better.

forde and by water both did what they needed to do. no problems were seen. If you want to maintain ball possession, yes, you throw the ball out to your players and work it forward slowly, quick, quick - slow. so easy prays.

Throwing it out is fine as long as you find a spare man quickly and accurately or , the opposition don't pressure you too much too soon. What then happens is , the ball is played back to the keeper for him to hoof it to the halfway line anyway !

Depends also on the accuracy of the goal keepers kick or if he has a long throw. I remember Brian King had a knack of throwing long to the likes of Possee orBridges who quite often due to their incredible pace lost defenders to go and score.

Me and my Brother in-llaw (Millwall about 40 years), from the start of this season, First game to watch the West ham mugs set-up!! Agreed (first time ever) that Forde was pumping it up and playing the Scottish long ball game!!.... it then takes a proper manager in IH to spot this obvious glazing wrong doing in two weeks!! The Messiah has got it it correct again and hopefully he finds out....that proper mug Dunne in the Portugal training camp!!

@bordersarebest0170: right, I have an update and have added another verse:

To the tune of my old mans a dustman:

      Holloway's a lion
      He wears a Millwall scarf
      When he's interviewing
      He makes me f****** laugh
      He is a carrot cruncher
He comes up from the west
      He's at home at millwall
      Cos were the f****** best!

Let me know if you like it?

Unfortunately, this will not be easy for me to start in the BK lower, so over to you CBL Boys.
