Exclusive: Key Millwall trio in line for contract extensions

MILLWALL plan to offer new contracts to David Forde, Liam Trotter and Shane Lowry in the coming weeks.

The key trio are due to become free agents next June but the Lions are ready to begin negotiating extensions to their deals.

Chairman John Berylson is flying over from Boston to watch Saturday's game against QPR and contract renewals will be high on the board's agenda during his visit.

Rival clubs interested in signing Forde, Trotter or Lowry in the summer will be free to approach them in the New Year, so Den bosses want them tied down as soon as possible.

Chief executive Andy Ambler, who will handle talks, said: "There are two or three players, who are out-of-contract this year, that we need to have discussions with in the lead up to Christmas.

"We always said it wouldn't be until October that we started looking at contracts and which way we wanted to shape the squad, but that cheapativanpriceonline.com will now happen."

Between them, Forde, Trotter and Lowry have made over 450 competitive appearances for the club and manager Steve Lomas believes they are instrumental to his short-term and long-term plans.

Lowry has been in and out of the side this season, primarily because of suspension, but, at 24, the best years of his career are still ahead of him.

Millwall have tried and failed in the past to renew terms with Trotter but Lomas is a huge admirer of the midfielder and is determined to keep him at The Den.

Forde underlined his quality with an outstanding performance for the Republic of Ireland against Germany last week – but his international exploits could attract other suitors.

Lomas said: "We need to get certain key players signed up. Fordey has been very impressive for his country and obviously we want to keep hold of him, but there are a few others as well. Hopefully we will get that ball rolling soon."

Trotter is my main concern here. Massive loss if we lose him in my humble opinion.

@wall2wall: as we are a selling club my main concern is he will go for free the same with forde.but hey ho i suppose every one will blame sl if they go instead of the previouse regime who failed to in their efforts to get them to sign extended contracts.

        @jim1222:
I know it has been reported that they tried before to extend and it didn't happen. If I was in charge I would make him the best paid player and build my team around him. Criminal if we lose such a talent for no fee. I hope more of us can get behind him and give him something to think about.

@jim1222: Agree Jim, probably Ambler bashing season again.
TBH I would be more surprised if Trotter signed as he has constantly bleated about going.
It would be a shame because he is just beginning to show some decent form.
Not sure about Forde, he is in the latter stages of his career so maybe might like to cash in on his international status while he has the chance.
Not to bothered about Lowry, would like to have seen him at his natural position but def not LB.
Who ever leaves then good luck to them they have served us well, you can't blame anyone for wanting to better themselves, we are no different.
I just hope we don't lose them for nothing but that will probably be the case.

I Like Forde but he's the number one International keeper now so he'll want to go up a division and I really hold no grudges against him for that. Lowry can go IMO if we can sell him.
Trotter will want a massive pay increase to stay, and will only do that if we start getting into a play off position quickly. More likely he'll go to a 'top' championship team or a 'lower' premiership one.
At the end of the day, Millwall need to cement these contracts well ahead of time rather than fannying around because this is what happens when that isn't done.

Seems to me, that all 3 and the club would welcome a move. Considering they will basically be the remaining back bone of Jackett's regime, and that Lomas has already started moving everyone else out. Problem for the us fan's will be the pain caused by watching all of them go for nothing, due the clubs lack of insight and p*** poor reputation with contract renewals.
Im fed up with it all, always the same thing. Pre-season AA was talking about offering Forde a contract then, but as usual nothing was done !!!!!! If they don't wanna sign straight away then f*** em off asap ! Hopefully Lomas will follow

All of these signings were players of quality that could not get into the first team of their parent clubs, which probably explains how we were able to sign them in the first place. This was one of KJ's strengths as a manager. So now they are established, we are always going to struggle to keep these players. Worth a try though or we should sell for as much as we can.

My worry with Trotter is the same as my one with Henry, attitude. If someone wants him he'll go. If not he'll sign a new contract and go on a mental holiday until the next window opens.

Hope Trotter stays, we still haven't seen the best of him imo, he has a ring of class when playing with the right players, but if the team is struggling then he will want to move on to where he can show his talent and progress.

I'd prefer to keep Forde, his international experience is great for the club. He's well over 30 now and we need to find a replacement, however, he's a lot betterthan anyanyone else I can see. I'm not bothered about Shane Lowry. He's too dumb to be a footballer IMO. Liam Trotter isn't consistent enough and his head is in the clouds. Get rid!

Lowry is important, he just needs more guidance and discipline. We all know what he's capable of and his potential. As for trotter yes he is quality but his place can be filled by the likes of Chaplow etc. And to be honest I've never been a real fan of Forde

Lowry - Would like to see him stay and sign another contract as I think he's got more to give. Might help playing the bloke in his natural position!
Forde - Not fussed what he does. Been a good servant but gets beaten from distance far to many times for my liking.
Trotter - Difficult one for me. On his day he's brilliant, but can be shocking at times. Would it be worth offering him say a 2 year extention on his contract with more money and then being upfront and honest with him saying that if a Premiership club comes in for him during the summer, we'd let him go IF the price was right.

Offer them new contracts and if they refuse to sign them let them go in January for a fee rather than free transfers in the Summer. We only want players who are interested in playing for Millwall and the same applies to Feeney and Henry. My main concerns are however that none of these players are the deadwood at the club who we have been trying to shift and that SL will replace them with 30 plus year olds like Hunt and Derry. Chaplow, Bailey and McDonald are all approaching 30 and we now want some younger players in the squad to reduce to average age..

@denslions: The problem with that is we will end up losing players we can not replace for next to nothing. It's all well and good only having players that want to play for us, but being realistic we all know that's never going to work. We could have 15 Alan Dunne's who give their all but are limited in the scheme of things.

Lowry and Trotter are still relatively young and have potential even if they can infuriate at times BUT they will attract lots of attention from the likes of Leicester etc believe you me.

Their contracts should have been tied up long ago, even if only with the view to command a greater fee when selling, this is where we have historically fallen short of the likes of Palace who p*** on us with regards to getting good money when selling players.

I would be surprised if 2 from the 3 mentioned stay. Trotter will have the bigger spenders offering much higher wages and will bolt! Chances are the others could well too. Should have been tied up seasons ago imo. Tut

these three players are from a buyers view the pick of the current squad. trotter on his day does catch the eye.lowry in his natural position is a different animal and forde is the best goalkeeper in the championship, his international career being his shopwindow, personally I think the board will sell these three if the right money comes along and say its good business.

Fordey is quality and only when we have to find a replacement will we truly understand what a high level he is playing at. There aren't many that could match his current form.

JonnyBanks - The point I was making with my comment was that they are all free agents in the Summer so would leave for nothing anyway. Better to get a transfer fee for them in January if they don't want to sign new contracts but make sure we bring in young players to replace them not another bunch of 30 plus year olds. I would prefer that we kept the 3 of them but if they want to move on so be it.
