Millwall threaten to recall Feeney from loan spell at Bolton

© Nicky Hayes

MILLWALL are likely to recall winger Liam Feeney from his loan spell at Bolton unless their Championship rivals agree a deal to sign him permanently.

A clause that cuts-short Feeney's three-month stint at the Reebok Stadium becomes active on October 26 and the Lions will trigger it unless the Trotters step in and buy him now.

Feeney has impressed in a Bolton shirt and boss Steve Lomas wants to set up a January sale or bring the former Bournemouth midfielder back to The Den as soon as possible.

Sounds like we're desperate for some cash.
Let's hope the clubs that lend us players don't do the same thing.

    What is that about ?
Do we want him or not ? Or is this the cash we are gonna use to buy Waghorn ?

That would assume that the value of them both is the same. I doubt that.

@bleachy81: Surely its a three-month loan? How can we be throwing our toys out of the pram when he wasn't wanted here anyway. Unless we're desperate for him back, we should give him more time at Bolton. If they want him, they'll sign him.

Should never have been allowed to leave on loan..he has done so very well there it beats my comprehension why Freedman used him in the best possible way and all we did was to mess the poor lad around...somebody has to get a firm grip before everybody else decides they want to try their luck elsewhere...

Oh what a joke! So Henry's off and now Feeney.... That leaves us with 2 wingers both of whom naturally play on the left, he's bringing in Hunt apparently who also plays on the left... We need to keep hold of Feeney or Henry as replacing them will cost far more than the income generated on top of trying to fund a move for Waghorn!

I think that with this fiasco. the Henry loan and talks about taking Hunt, it proves that Lomas does not know what he's doing. As we have conceded so many goals in the last few games, surely stregthening the defence is a priority. We will have used so many players since the start of the season, more than any other club, no wonder we are in such a mess and SL is still talking about bringing more in. He talks about teams taking time to gel, how can they when he keeps changing the squad. We are fast becoming a joke, which to those that love this club is not funny.

      Totally agree.
Let's hope Lomas reads your comments.
Home to QPR was always going to be a toughie. I do expect us to rise to the occasion and see a 1-1 draw. The two games after that will ultimately decide the fate of Lomas and ultimately the fate of Millwall this season.
      Back to England............

@glyngo: obviously feeney is not in sl thoughts, feeney is playing well in boltons set up so its sensible to put pressure on bolton to close a permanant deal, rather than let feeney go on playing well and help damage our league position while he is still our player.if feeney was not playing well we would just let bolton pay his wages and say nothing.

henry is not interested in playing for millwall so the quicker he is out the door completly the better for millwall,if things dont go his way he sulks when we were up against it at the beginning of the season he did not get stuck in he was rubbish no fight in him at all and did not want to play.he was the same at reading and will be the same what ever club he goes to, plays well at first but when he gets his feet under the table he is mediocre at best sooner hes gone the better.

Surely this is good news? Feeney has never done much for us and is playing well for Bolton. If they want to keep him they have to BUY him. If not we'll have him back and sell him to someone else.

We need the money to spend on other areas of the team or make Waghorn a permanent signing.

Good work from Millwall I think.

The slppery slide is now well underway, unless JB is bought out and a more wealthy chairman takes over, we're in dire straights now more so than at anyother time I know of

During pre-season feeney really knuckled down and began to play well, seemingly fighting for a chance to prove himself in the first team. He has clearly worked on his game and lomas has packed him off to bolton. Granted we dont know what goes on behind closed doors but I dont get lomas thinking.
I understand that feeney doesn't fit into the current formation, but would be a good plan b, moving to 2 wingers, injecting some pace late on in games.
Before the season started one position that was stable, strong and needed no money spent on it was the right wing... now we have no one to play there except chaplow, out of position... square pegs in round holes springs to mind.
This is all all starting to wreak of desperation, and im beginning to wonder if lomas knows what he is doing. We were led to believe that he had a good knowledge of the club, strengths, weaknesses, future plans and targets, but it seems to me like he is winging it as he goes along and it worries me, especially with the finances and future of the club. I hope im wrong and he knows exactly what he is doing, for millwalls sake.

Whatever SL does now is his call, he will sink or swim by his decisions he is making now. That is what a manager does. If he gets right he will be a hero, if he gets it wrong he will be on his bike. That is what he is paid to do, we can only hope he knows what he is doing, and only time will tell.

I think it has the making of a right cock-up. I would rather Feeney returns he wants to play for Millwall. Why get Hunt? What difference will he make? It is patently obvious we need a defender! Preferably someone with some experience. I agree also with another posting about bringing in some of the youngsters. I am just left with the impression that every game Millwall plays the manager is unsure of what he wants. Blackpool, Charlton Leeds was a great run, what has happened to cause the last two setbacks? A leaky and dispirited defence, I hope SL will do something about that for the QPR game.

Feeney was not performing in a millwall shirt. He clearly didn't step up when sl come in. Just because he ain't done too bad at Bolton don't mean he will come back and start performing for us. Out him while we can still get a few quid and go looking for some young blood, not
Hunt for god sake. We are over run with midfielder's. Decent centre half and a rb should be top of the agenda surely??

It is clear to me that SL reads NAD.

What he does is says something, finds out what the majority want and reacts.

The last story the majority opinion was feeney back and let hunt go.

Looks like that is what he is doing.

IMO he has not a clue and I am fast running out patience.

He doesn't know his best eleven.

He doesn't seem to be able to improve what he has at his disposal.

He seems to think that we have a bottomless pit and not a budget.

He thinks buying players is a way out of trouble, however, in reality we have used so many players they have had absolutely no time to gel.

He has not got the players giving their all - something he insisted he would.

He has absolutely no plan b.

He wants to play 433 or 451 - when it goes wrong, and woolford is on the pitch, most people would have a right winger on the bench - either Henry or feeney, and the system can be altered to 442 immediately. Has he tried to do that? NO!

Have you ever seen him alter tactics mid game?

Have you seen him gamble when we are losing?

Furthermore he has a team with no confidence whatsoever.

I hope AA and JB have got an eye on the financial issue.

    If not it's hello Pompey!

I've never had an issue with feeney the closest with had to carter / Stephenson for years just needs an end to his efforts. With the manager he could be what we lack. By the way said it before lomas was appointed jacket was the only person in the world who could of kept us up last year and if he had the money lomas has had who knows

@mfcmike: Well said Mike, some posters on here have no appreciation of what Jackett achieved and can only focus on the last few months of his time here. If he'd have got this kind of backing at the start of last season we'd never have been anywhere near relegation trouble. Lomas has a lot to live up to.

Do you think that when Jackett said he was leaving only then was he offered team building funds?

I assume he then said 'I have nearly had a relegation on my CV and now you offer money, if you had given me that at the start of the season we could have been in play off contention worth bigger gates etc'

    I was no Jackett fan!
I found his tactics uninspiring however if as I speculate the above is true, no wonder he moved on, no doubt with a bigger budget .

We now seem to have random irrational decisions on team building, Is Lomas looking to win games 6-5 on the assumption every defence is as fragile as ours?

From what I recall, he was given a great deal of money to get Wood. Having failed, he then signed Tyson and Hulse on loan. I don't think he's got a bigger budget at Wolves, not compared to what we've spent this season so far.
Jackett was good for Millwall up to the middle of last season. After that, things got a bit souless.
Let's move on from Jackett once and for all.
Lomas is at the helm now and he's spent a lot of money by Millwall standards to give us a good team ( on paper ) and some of the players he's signed only came here because of him. No doubt that time and patience is running out. The current Millwall team, properly managed, can and should be in the top eight. I'm sure the board recognise that and Berylson will have both eyes on the next three difficult games. After that, we'll either be moving up the table or looking for a new manager.

I THINK LOMAS IS RUNNING AGAINST BORROWED TIME NOW AND THE NEXT 3 GAMES ARE CRUCIAL AND I REALLY DO THINK ANYTHING LESS THAN 6 POINTS FROM THEM 3 GAMES IS A FAILURE AND THE BOARD WILL HAVE TO SIT DOWN STRAIGHT AWAY AND MAKE SOME BIG DECISIONS.. ANYBODY CAN PUT A GOOD TEAM TOGETHER AS IVE DONE WITH MILLWALL ON FOOTBALL MANAGER BUT MAKING THEM WIN GAMES AND PLAY LIKE A TEAM IS WERE THE DIFFERENCE COMES IN A GOOD MANAGER .. HAS LOMAS GOT THAT? WELL FOR ONE I DONT THINK HES GOT THE EXPERIENCE AS BEING IN SCOTTISH FOOTBALL IS LIKE RUNNING A PUB TEAM AND HAS HE GOT THE COACHING ABILITY AND THE TACTICS WELL JUDGING BY OUR DEFENSIVE RECORD THIS SEASON AND HIS PERSISTENCE IN MOVING THE MIDFIELD AROUND AN TALKING ABOUT BRINGING MIDFIELD PLAYERS IN THEN I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT GAME HES BEEN WACHTING ALL SEASON.. I GUESS ONLY TIME WILL TELL BUT THATS TIME HES RUNNING OUT OF IN MY EYES.

@TheGoodDr: Looking at their site Liam got man of the match vote buy73% of Bolton supporters for their last game. I am convinced SL has got it wrong over Feeney, unless he does not like using wide men? Why sign Hunt and let go Feeney? He is pacey and a battler.
I hope the manager has got the defence in good shape before the QPR game. The midfield is looking good with Trotter beginning to get back to his best, I would not be surprised to see us get a result Saturday providing we have a decent ref.
