Millwall manager believes he needs time to "energise" club

STEVE Lomas is confident he will turn things around at Millwall – if given time.

The Lions boss is under pressure after heavy defeats to Birmingham and Bournemouth and is in desperate need of a result against QPR after the international break.

The travelling fans at Dean Court last weekend were chanting 'Lomas Out' after watching their side lose 5-2, but the Northern Irishman has pleaded for patience.

And he has no intention of resigning if results do not improve.

"I will never quit," he said. "Pressure comes with being in management. I had two years at St Johnstone where everything was rosy but even then there were big ups and downs, so it comes with the job.

"I am definitely up for the fight and the challenge of getting lexapro get out your system through these spells.

"I took this job because I wanted to challenge myself. I could have stayed where I was and I was fully aware that this was going to be a very tough job.

"Every manager needs time but you don't always get it – that is the nature of the beast nowadays and you have to accept it. But any fair person overlooking the job I have to come in and do would say it's a big, big challenge for anyone.

"The club wasn't exactly full of life when I took over so we're trying to energise things, and I believe given time I can do that."

Sounds good but sound bites dont appease supporters who pay good money...and lets be honest we have had so many sound bites that they begin to wear thin...actions speak louder than words...prompt action is required and sooner the better to make sure the season is successful and winning might just bring back the disaffected supporters who seem to have left

SL is certainly right about the club not being full of life when he came in. Just remember the state we were in at the end of last season - we were very lucky to survive! SL has brought in some very good players in the positions where I think most supporters thought we badly needed them. We now have much better forwards and midfielders than previously. I reckon that when SL came in, he was told that the back four were strong and he should concentrate on the rest of the team. This he has done, only for the previously "strong" back four performing so badly. Give Sl some time to get it right, he surely deserves that? He has a big challenge to get the team performing what with Burnley and QPR coming up.

@Longtimer: i completely agree with you that he has brought some very good players in but he is not wanted here and never will be so in the broad scope of things he is destined to fail! there is too much negativity surrounding the club now and he has to go the sooner the better it just ain't gonna work and we gotta stop kidding ourselves that it will. We have a load of good players that he don't know how to get the best out of , our defense is a f****** joke shittus legs have gone dunne is becoming more and more of a liability beevers is still injured robbo is nearing the end of his career lowry is s*** at lb and ok ish at cb . forde for me is unpredictable . and any football fan knows you build from the back but we haven't got a back to build from so we're gonna end up with lomarse for at least this season go down lose our good players end up a league 1 side with an below average team for the next 5 years at least this is the most unforgiving league in the world imho we don't have time to f*** around it's either do it now or f off .

I partially agree but dont forget the money the club has lost in allowing Feeney and Henry to go as well and how much of the budget has been spent on new players...who seem to take an age to gel and many of whom seem unfit...the message is there and must be addressed. Time is a valuable commodity and before too long time runs out...do the job prescribed or let somebody else do it

@peter2545: How has the club lost money by letting Feeney and Henry go on loan, surely we are saving on some of their wages. They were not featuring in the plans of late.

@peter2545: Henry is out of contract at the end of this season and wants to leave, so we are better off letting him go to Wolves on loan. Hopefully they will sign him for a fee in January, which will be better than having him sitting on the bench for the rest of the season with a bad attitude while we are paying his wages.
I don't know is Feeney is similarly unhappy but he has never been able to pin down a place in the side for long and he is unlikely to do so in a formation without wingers. So it is also better for him to go out with a view to a transfer. I believe he may also be out of contract at the end of the year.

@peter2545: They are still MFC players, so if they do well at their loan clubs they may get back in our side or their value on the transfer market will increase with more clubs interested. If they were languishing in our squad without even getting on the bench then that would be a waste of money but at the moment we are getting a proportion of their wages paid and we could be able to sell if club or player wants that. They are basically in the shop window. All I can see is a win win situation for MFC.

Did anybody see the goals from the Millwall's U21s game against Ipswich, they certainly looked 'energised'.
Getting bored of all this 'we're still in shock'....'we need to energise this club' b0ll0x's from our players and management.
Just fu#king get on with it lads. It really is quite simple. Do what you did against Blackpool / Charlton and Leeds and we'll win games. It not rocket science FFS..!!

Some people make me laugh, only a small minded bunch of Millwall supporters didn't want Lomas because of his WH connections and have very short memories!!!! Our greatest hero Harry Chripps came from WH, Lomas only played for them, it was a JOB for him and only a job!!!!!! He played they paid!!!!!!!!!!! He wouldn't die for them he is not a supporter of them!!!!!!! You will be calling him the best in a couple of months!!!!

      @leemark: Well said.
If you didn't have anyone from teams you hated then the number of footballers or managers to choose from would be severely limited, which would be very detrimental to our club.
In this day and age managers and players are moving teams constantly so there will always be a reason to hate someone if you look hard enough.
So if you really care about the club as everyone on here claims to then you should all get behind the personnel that make up our beloved club and forget the childish hatred.
If someone wants to come to our club they should be welcomed because there is a lot that can't wait to leave.

@Sealion: Sealion the fans dont pick the team and they certainly dont set the formation or do the team talk, Why do you constantly blame the fans? If he never played for that lot he would still get grief because he is clueless simple as that. Do you remember what happened to Rhino? I dont remember him wearing a west ham shirt but he took some awful stick, Its the nature of the beast. Your constant digging out of other wall fans is getting boring.

@Eightieswall: I was just trying to illustrate the pointlessness of hating someone just because they were employed by a certain club.
As has been stated on several occasions some of our best players have had WH connections ie Lawrie Leslie, Harry Cripps, Dennis Burnett, Jim Standen and Anton Otalukowski etc ect.
Many players have also come from Charlton and Palace, we now have Morison from Leeds.
Some people have mentioned Curbishley as a prospective manager, all of these people who have or could help this club would have been excluded from us due to past employment if a minority of fans had had their way.
If fans think that someone is a useless clueless t*** then so be it but to run people down just because they worked somewhere else for a period is negative and futile, imo.
If they had publicly slagged our club off then that is a different matter.
Apologies if I am boring you but it's a risk i'll just have to take.

If Chaplow reads the above article he will be confused,Lomas is talking about energising the club so why sign Derry on loan when we already have younger and hungrier players? Bywater is another one, he is hardly competition for Fordey. Harford is hardly fresh in the game is he? Lomas is out of his depth and knows it but as he says he wont quit. You see if he walks he dont get the big pay off. Get sacked and your quids in.

Can't believe the negativity aimed at SL. I know we're not placed in the league where we'd like to be , but , just how good are we ? What are realistic expectations ? I place us 12th-15th at very best. Reading people's posts about " he's not wanted" etc assumingly due to him being an ex West Ham player embarrasses me. Give the man a chance and try to ignore where he played as a professional footballer for f#ck sake , it has no bearing on where he works now. Change the record. If he fails , fine..replace him. If he succeeds , great cos a lot of shallow minded people will owe him an apology !

So Shittu, Keogh and Lowry are suddenly bad players are they? Most of you lot were singing their praises about 5 minutes ago. Lomas is out of his depth and taking this club nowhere but down (of course we all hope and even pray he can change things) - look at his record so far - 3 wins from 11 plus two lucky draws - 2 defeats by 5 one of them at home plus defeats by 4 and 3 - losing a game when conceding 5 goals after being two up (look at the stats they had 24 goals efforts to our 8 what does that tell you) - games where the team had hardly a single effort on goal - poor tactics - bizarre subs - chopping and changing the personnel week in week out. All of this against teams most of whom are pretty unfancied in this league. He's also signed almost an entire new 11 so that combined with his "in depth" knowledge of the squad at interview should at least given us some semblance of a football team. Lomas has turned it right around all right - before he arrived it was boring negativity, gloom and doom. Now it's doom. gloom and boring negativity. I daresay all the usual suspects will come straight back with their weak "you're negative yourself argument" so don't bother - just get your brains into gear (if possible) and wake up an smell the coffee.

I said the other day DANNY SHITTU should be an Automatic choice......build the team around him,
and give him the ball when we want a shot at goal.......................
[ don't get in the way when he "BLAST IT" ..................... ]
Sue and I were at the Bourne mouth away game [ as usual ]............
And like everybody says we played for 25mins.................
If SHITTU was there, he would have sorted the defence out !!!!
My message to LOMAS , get DS back in the team or "GET OUT"
WE HAVE [ AND ALWAYS HAVE DONE ] THE BEST SUPPORTERS IN THE WORLD
SO GIVES US A RUN FOR OUR MONEY...................

And to those who say give him a chance, how long do you recommend?

SL has had 3 months in the job. The get rid brigade must feel that's long enough for any manager , or just SL?
He needs 6 months minimum. To make an omelette , you gotta break a few eggs

It has been said that lomas can't believe how Kenny jacket has keep this team in the championship, on the budget he was given to work with, and that's why he took off, Lomas came in and used the budget for wages, getting quality in on free transfere's he's trying hard to pull us us out of the drudgery that KJ left us in, it was good while it lasted, lets move on give Lomas a chance until January, JB ain't goint to appoint a new manager we all know that, so onwards and upwards. Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiillll
