Lomas hails Millwall's clinical finishing in win over Leeds

STEVE Lomas toasted Millwall's two picture-book goals against Leeds United – claiming they were worthy of winning any Championship game.

Martyn Woolford and Scott Malone put the Yorkshire side to the sword with well-worked second-half strikes to hand the Lions their third straight win on Saturday.

And Lomas said: "I am delighted for the lads. They were a little bit disappointed at half time, but this is what the Championship is all about – these tight, nip and tuck games.

"Have you got the winning mentality to grind it out and turn an okay performance into three points? The two goals we scored were worthy of winning any game and we hit the post three times as well, so I thought we thoroughly deserved it.

"Sometimes the lads underrate themselves – they are good players and I believe in them. If I thought that they couldn't pass the ball and play, I'd put two up front and we'd lump the ball forward.

"We're playing 4-3-3 and the two goals we scored will probably be as good as any others you'll see in the Championship this weekend. From that point of view, I was delighted.

"Keeping another clean sheet was another positive. When you get a team working hard for each other – and I include the whole squad in that – you can go that extra mile. If you don't have togetherness, you get found out so I was delighted with the collective effort."

Victory was Millwall's first at The Den in a Saturday 3pm kick-off since December 2012 – and Lomas admitted he was relieved to get that monkey off his back.

"That stat has been knocking around in every single press conference, so to get rid of that was good as well," he added. "We have got a chance to make it a really good week against Birmingham and Bournemouth now before the international break."

      @NICKOLA:
I heard SL's post-match interview - he always sounds modest and cautious, which I think is a good thing. Still 35 championship games to go, plus the small matter of the FA Cup. It's still early days, but at least we are now looking good.
As Del Boy Trotter used to say, "This time next year we could be..."
Birmingham and Bournemouth next week, so here's hoping.
PS - I found a five pound note on the street on the way home before I got the result today.

@SE14 Exile: yes I wondered where that went!

You will observe that note is blue & white,

There was a claret and blue two bob note years ago.

When I was 16 I could have got five pints in the pub and a bag of chips on the way home for a fiver. Happy days.

@SE14 Exile: Amazing how those trips away don't look at all daunting anymore, two weeks ago we'd all be fingers crossed, hoping for a couple of points from those games. Now we want six!

16th,Apologies to Mr Lomas and Millwall I predicted 16th and I now believe that better things are now possible, the defence and midfield are looking more solid all we need now is the strikers to score now and again.
    Happy days

There was a s*** team from Leeds
Who thought they'd get three points with ease
    A smoke bomb went off
    then the lions ran amock
And the Leeds ran home to jerk off

Obviously the players have confidence and belief in SL..he has done that and well done to him. The players are responding brilliantly and it is up to the fans to get behind them big time. Please no more slagging off players, calling some "deadwood". I say again there are no bad players at Millwall with SL there, only players who will get better and better and better and better and better..................

For anyone who was there today, did the Leeds fans look or sound disappointed in anyway?

@SE14 Exile: first half it was more or less all leeds then second half it was all us.
After the first goal all three stands sung "jimmy savile, he's one of your own"
As loud as you can imagine absolute priceless to see the life zapped out of 2200 leeds fans, quality.

Excellent result today, well done to SL and the lads. Wait until Mac + Moro are up front and get firing on all cylinders. Be like lambs to the slaughter, surely someone is going to get a good hiding.

Woolford for the problematic left midfield England position, please? When his confidence is at its peak he could take the p**s on ANY stage. So pleased for him. Well done wall!

I'm particulary pleased for 2 people . 1 , Steve Lomas who wasn't given a fair crack of the whip and 2 , Martyn Woolford who was written off before he'd kicked a ball. Hard work , patience and a bit of luck really pays off.

Really good result today, second half was more upbeat, the first half looked like he set up not to lose, but he must have thought like we all know they were not too good. Two rally good goals and several really good preformances form Woolford (who I was one of his detractors but he is winning me over) and Dunne (who again I thought his best days were behind him) and Malone cant see Lowrey getting in at left back on Teusday.

I thought Trotter again looked out of touch in the middle expect for the second goal, playing in the centre he does notwin the ball eanough for me and does not try to win the ball ball back when its lost, also for a big man does not win the ball in the air either, but 3 points 3 games on the spin and both Palarse and the Nigles both lost so Saturday night was alright .
