Lomas torn over Morison role in Charlton derby after goal

STEVE Lomas says he faces a "conundrum" as to whether to start Steve Morison against Charlton after the striker scored on his return from injury in midweek.

Morison, making his comeback from a double hernia operation, came off the bench to net his first goal of the season as the Lions beat Blackpool 3-1.

But Lomas was giving little away when asked whether the Leeds United loanee would be fit enough to play 90 minutes at The Valley on Saturday.

He said: "It's a conundrum. He was very effective coming off the bench on Tuesday when the game was stretched. The game had opened up a little bit and his physical presence and powerful running certainly helped us, and obviously it was a fantastic finish for the goal.

"Whether we freshen things up or not is a tough one – that's what I'm paid for, to make those decisions. The lads did very well against Blackpool but it has been a demanding week."

Morison returned to action barely three weeks after having surgery, and Lomas hailed the 30-year-old's professionalism during his recovery.

"I know what it is like as a player if you have a little underlying problem – you think you can get away with it but in the end you can't," Lomas said. "I'm delighted for Steve because he worked very hard to get back. His attitude was first class.

"That goal summed up everything that I want to see from Steve – running the channels, holding people off, closing down and being a defender's nightmare. We need someone getting in behind defences and that's why I brought him in, to do that key role."

I'm a big Moro fan but please Steve stick to the same 11 for once and use Moro as an impact player again until we are sure he's fully fit. 'Don't go changing in times of trouble..........'

i agree with lion.ie bring him on 60th minute regardless of score he will be the last thing charlton want to see after half time especially if we're already winning and if we're losing then im sure they wont wanna see him then either start foghorn leghorn and mcdonald go with the same eleven as tuesday night definitely don't change unless you really need to that's my view anyway COYL MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL

Morison was a class act on Tuesday - linked up well with Leghorn, will also do so with little Mac - but I agree he should be held back until 100% match fit

@TheDiceman: Morison is a class act and if anyone will get 20 goals for this side it will be him. But no he shouldn't start and neither should Lomas be discussing his tactics, team and "conundrum" in public with Aldo or anyone else. Should keep all that stuff to himself and the players concerned.

@Old_Les: dont you think he may be giving the charlton boss some thing to think about, like which forwards he will play ,if he is not going to name his team untill late like he did with blackpool. they will be in two minds .good move imo.

@jim1222: We'll agree to differ there. My school of thought is that you prepare yourself and not the other side.

Why change the side now? keep it as it is but he might think about adding Feeney on subs bench too.

Why would he tell anyone our tactics or who will be starting? It just gives the game away. Uneducated and s*** post.

He should play the same 11 as Tuesday with same subs barring any injuries.
He needs to keep that old Millwall spine of players with the blend of the new, they can start gelling together.
They turned over a team on good form and top of the table at the time on Tuesday.
That should give them a psychological boost to believe they can beat anyone in the championship rather than it being a one off.

F*** me why are we reading so much into a pony report ?
Moro looks the only one who'll score goals for us I'd personally start him as he'll push pull and bully the f*** out of their back line and he'll score bring waghorn on for Moro in 70/75th min to run em into ground.
Don't think there's to much to worry about with Moro and his fitness it's games he needs.

Morison fit or not , a contributory factor here may lie in which formation SL wishes to play. He may only play 1 upfront and pack the middle. It's a tough one to be honest.

Get him in the starting 11, looked like the Morrison of old on Tuesday, and has a good scoring record against the anoraks !!

We are singing from the same hymn sheet.
Morro was fantastic when he came on but I don't want him to get injured before he is fully fit.
Give him 45 minutes on Saturday ease him back into his role, if he is rushed back into it, it will f**k up his rehabilitation and our season.
      Don't do it SL

The majority verdict is that we start with the same eleven. Bring him on at half time if necessary and that will give him 45 minutes to build on the 30 minutes against Blackpool. He won't be eligible to play against Leeds the following week so by the game after that he should be able to play the full 90 minutes.

As long as they play with the same spirit as they did against Blackpool it dont really matter, on that form they can wipe the floor with any team, consistency is the key.

Have they shown any of midweeks goals on TV yet? I want to see Morison's gem.

He shouldn't be torn. It's very straightforward actually. Keep the same starting 11 then change it if necessary. Never ever change a winning formula.

@NO1LIKESUS: absolutely correct in what you say,as morison will not be available for the leeds game, this match will be another game for mcdonald and waghorn to gel.if need be morison can come on as sub, easing back after his surgery then after leeds game moro will be fully fit and the competition for forward positions will be really good.

Keep him as an impact player please Lomas, this is exactly how Norwich used him when he caught people's eyes in the premier league, plus he was awesome against Blackpool... Stick with the same starting 11, let McD&Waggers work rate wear the anoraks down then bring Morrison on to do the damage!!! COYL

I hope this is Steve Lomarse's way of winding up carlton to have them guessing....

We MUST have the same starting line up from Tuesday with Morrison on after 65 minutes.

The only change to the 18 man squad is Marshall to replace Bywaster on the bench.

I want Shittu, Keogh, Derry and all our unused players to be in the crowd with Millwall shirts and scarves singing our songs and getting behind the team COYL.
