NEW Millwall signing Nicky Bailey played 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly defeat to QPR at The Den on Monday evening.

The midfielder had yet to feature since joining the Lions on a free transfer two weeks ago but was given valuable match action ahead of Saturday's season-opener against Yeovil.

Trialists Gianni Zuiverloon, Nicky Shorey and Gary Dicker were all given the opportunity to impress, whilst winger Lee Martin made his comeback from a knee injury.

Ex-Wigan and Birmingham midfielder Daniël de Ridder has been training with Steve Lomas' squad since last week and had been expected to play, but was not listed in the official team.

Goals from Josh Laurent and Dylan Carreiiro sealed a 2-0 win for QPR.

Millwall: Bywater, Zuiverloon (Goodman, 70mins), Shorey, Osborne, Lowry (Siafa, 70mins), Woolford (McManus, 70mins), Bailey (Dicker, 46mins), Smith, Martin (Rees, 46mins), Easter (O'Brien, 70mins), N'Guessan.

Daniel de ridder was a great player. Went past people with ease. If he's anything like he used to be would be a great signing. Can play left or right. Still trying to get my head around the players we've signed and players that were being linked with. Exciting times.

Don't like losing any game but it's satisfying to know that potentially we have a team of winners.

@NO1LIKESUS: Yes, I was a bit dissapointed when I checked the score last night BUT there were a lot of players out there playing for the first time against a decent opposition and Lomas would have had a good look to see what shape they're in. Hopefully, they'll all be ready for Saturday if required.
Getting a bit anxious about the match against Yeovil. Should be a good crowd though.

Exciting ain't it? Yeovil will be no pushover though. Just hope the players are aware of the possible banana skin!

Time is running out for SL to see who his starting 11 will be for Saturday, I see that he gave Woolford & DNG another run out last night (worrying IMO) but De Ridder never got a run out "strange". He still has a lot of quality training with us and I am sure that the only thing stopping him from signing the ones he wants is there wage demands, but if they want to play and get paid or do they want to be unemployed.

I am still of the opinion that we need a couple of the big names that are trailist'sand we also need to be bold and let some either go or be loaned or sold IMO I could name 3 right off the bat and I would think 90% of you would agree DNG ,M Woolford & John Marquis.

Morison, McDonald, Keogh and Easter-in that order- all start up front in my opinion and the new midfield picks itself subject to injuries. Can't see how the likes of Woolford etc are going to get a look-in. Marquis is going out on loan as per Lomas.
No doubt that quite soon some of these players on the fringes will be gone.

@Barnlion: I disagree DNG should stay and Marquis imo, they may well become different players under the new style of SL it has happened before and can happen again. Easter and DNG combine well and can both be a handful in the forward line .
Yeovil will be no pushover, they have just got promoted and will be very eager to get off to a good start. Saturdays fixture will be a test of wills for both clubs, the managers and the supporters. Get behind the manager and all the players. It will be a close result but I think the Lions will just edge it.

@Peckhamlad: Peckhamlad, I just dont think either of these players will be starting in the first 11 and would benifit being loaned out, or if they really dont fit in SL plans then they need to move on for there own sakes to continue there career somewhere else.

Regarding Saturdays game on I have ready said that I am concerned about it because last season they were winning on there way to promotion and we were trying to get relergated, so they have a winning momentum, but as we have a new manager and a lot of new players I hope we can stamp our new class on this game from the first whistle.

I don't care about the result last night, it was a run out for the boys coming into fitness and trialist, with a few fringe players making up the numbers. I don't think we can take anything from that result to be honest. I hope we can can all give Lomas and the team some time to gel before people start banging the drum that it isn't working, it will probably be 6-8 weeks before they are properly in tune. A new right back is a must with an additional wide man who can play on the left, either on a loan or perm contract.

I have a sneaky feeling that he will start with the crux of the team that started on Saturday minus Robinson for Shittu and maybe Bailey for Wright. He wont rush all the new signings back for the sake of the first game if they are still not fully fit. Maybe see McDonald and Martin come on for a cameo in the second half:
Team for Saturday due to fitness/game time/injury etc, etc:
    Forde
    Dunne, Shittu, Beevers, Malone
    Henry, Abdou, Bailey, Chaplow
    Morison, Keogh
Subs: Bywater, Lowry, Robinson, Martin, McDonald, Nguesson, Wright

there seems to be a lot of anxious millwall fans worried about our first game against yoevil but i have just been looking at the betting odds on sky betting we are slight odds on.when you look at the other odds on all the home teams no team is really big odds on to win,so this looks on what i know is only the first game of season ,as if this season is going to be more competitive than last year, and the bookies rarely get it wrong,so what ever happens against yoevil we have to get behind sl and the team even dng if he plays.i think we will have to hit the ground running and get some good points off the teams that look likely to finish near the bottem of the table, but if things go against us we will need about 10 games for thi team to really gel.so i say to all the loud mouths stay off the teams backs and give them positive support by getting behind them if things go wrong at the start.remember sl and jb have been bold in turning the playing staff around so i applaud them for that .

Been told by a baggies fan that looney is not the best defender in the world more often or not makes a mistake, weather that true or not we will have to see. And Jordan Stewart comes to mind he was only quick over 40 yards before his hamstring popped. nothing dunne can't do he run the length of the Leicester pitch and got the winner ... ?

There seems to be a lot of rose coloured glasses being worn with regard to Alan Dunne, yes he is Millwall and gives a 100% but if Millwall can get another player who is better than him and that goes for anyone at the club, then we should and hopefully improve the side which in turn should improve our league position.

I am sure that anyone of the players at the club would jump at the chance of moving to a top flight outfit either here or in Europe, because thats what there in the game for to play at the highest level they can, and remember there really is no sentiment in football at any level and its all about opinions and results.

I am a bit concerned that Millwall have not played many friendlies, it will take a while for the team to blend together and get used to new formations the manager is seeking. There are number of new signings and the prospect of at least one more so at least there is a big squad to take the strain of a very busy and hard season. It is not a level playing field either with premiership relegated clubs being handed over £20 million each as a pay off. Any such money should have been shared equally between all the other clubs. SL has his work cut out and he needs to instil a confident spirit in the team which is why I think our supporters should help by getting behind all the players including DNG.
I am confident of a top half finish and that is where my money is being placed! Onwards and upwards.

Despite injuries and players gelling we should beat Yeovil, they must be certs for relegation? Wall should beat them on their own patch what with the new found confidence buzzing around, 2-1 to the Lions I reckon. Moro with both to get my bet up and running : )

Yeovil will be organised and hard to beat first game....if we are up and atom this is a game we should win. We are not the most predictable team lately.
