Former West Brom right-back Zuiverloon on trial at Millwall

MILLWALL manager Steve Lomas is running the rule over former West Brom and Holland U21 right-back Gianni Zuiverloon.

Zuiverloon linked up with the Lions' squad on Monday morning and is expected to feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly against QPR this evening.

Lomas wants to sign a right-back to provide competition for Alan Dunne and Zuiverloon, who has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave current club Mallorca this summer, is one option under consideration.

Another is Frazer Richardson, who, despite cutting-short a trial spell with Millwall earlier this month to hold talks with Middlesbrough, remains without a club.

@Strood Lion: Strood me old mucker, I think you had that a**e about face if we dod manage to get him, I cant see Dunney keeping this guy out he is 26 years old played in the prem and La Lega also in the Dutch top flight and I beleive he has a full cap for Holland, who I think you may agree are a really good international team.

This time last year we would not have been talking about this calibre of player so things are looking up even if he does not come down the Den Chaplow chose us as well as the other good signings SL has made, things a looking up all we need now is some points on the board.

@Strood Lion: Strood I am doing ok slightly worried about Saturday as I think they may give us a game as they were on the up last season and we were doning the reverse, but Alan Dunne I know what you mean but we as supporters want better and better players at the club so we improve always or thats the theory anyway.

Dunney should only play if he is good enough and there should be no sentiment involved in him turning out for the first team, but I would lobve to see 2 players viying for every position.

Zuiverloon would be the perfect choice, has bags of experience and apparantely very quick. If SL brings him in it will really make this one of the strongerst squada in a while.

Don't know much about this fella, but if he's got a bit of pace and is good on the ball I think he's just what Henry needs in support. Henry can travel with the ball but doesn't have the pace to get clear of defenders, so if he can pass on the batten to a pacey overlapping RB or use him to take defenders away then that's just what we need. More quality crosses in the box, more goals, more happy supporters.

I posted on here a few weeks ago that I feel I'm supporting the wrong club cos Millwall don't usually get associated with these types of players let alone sign them! I'm not complaining & let's hope that this nice Dutch gentleman chooses to play for us cos we need RB cover. COYL

Dunney's fine by me. Yes , he's limited at best , but , I don't want an influx of foreigners taking 1st team places from established pros. If we start all that , we'll be like an average Premiership side (non british) before long. Those sort of players give you no loyalty. Look at our recent testimonials , they were for real wall , old school players . I support my local team for a reason....... local boys wearing my shirt !

He likes to get forward too... Lomas with his signings appears to be going down the 'we're going to score one more than you' route. This season is going to be very interesting.

Best player has to be selected, but I do think people forget how much improvement Dunne showed last season and how much better the team played when he was brought back in the team. Proved that old dogs can learn new tricks.

block 8, i aggree with you, i seem to like dunny a lot more than most on here, so dunny's allright by me, but just on your comments about foreign players , a frenchman has been arguably our best and most commited player over the last couple of years and our player of the season, jím, so if you get the right ones it's fine, just a thought

Hello , I agree with you , a very worthwhile point you make. I think my point being , I would love to see our youth , reserves etc get a fair crack of the whip too. I just fear "real wall" players getting overlooked in the pursuit of short term gain. Maybe it's me , an old dinosaur.

I'm sorry but in all reality the weaknesses are now at right back and at centre half positions. It pains me to say that, especially after last season but to progress, we have to sign better players. We've seen in the last few weeks some tremendous signings that I'm sure we'd all agree have improved the squad. As a consequence, some players will have to go, and some will eventually want to go as they're no longer holding down a first team slot. If we sign Shorey as an example, then Lowry can play either at back-up left full back or first choice centre half. If we sign 'Looney' then Dunne will be back-up and not first choice. These are the changes that are going to happen and have to happen to go onwards and upwards.

This is a bit of a wierd one. Zuiverloon is still under contract at Mallorca but was loaned back to his old club SC Heerenveen on 15 July. So he has been there for two weeks and he is now on trial with us?

Be mindful this is still speculation Zuiverloon is only a trialist. I wonder how the practise against QPR ended up?

answer Millwall lost 2-0 but used a lot of trialists and gave the chance for Bailey, Lowry, Martin, Siafa, Shorey, Zulverloon etc to have a workout.

We lost 2-0, not that it really matters, but it was really our reserves plus Zuiverloon, Bailey, Lowry and Martin. Mind you, qpr had their reserves out too.

A worrying result given the team QPR had out. Not our first team, but some experienced players nonetheless. Still it's all about Yeovil now, no excuses or sound bites come 5pm on Saturday, just three points on the board. COYL

@ascot lion: Seeing as he's been valued at £1.5m it's very ambitious indeed, although if Mallorca want to get him off the boos we may have to only pay a nominal fee

@junkmale: @ascot lion: Lads one of the reason's he has been let go is that Real Mallorca have signed Alan Hutton from the Villa and ex Spurs, so maybe that just want to get another wage off there books, (like we should start doing with some of our dead wood) .
