MILLWALL say they will officially complete the signing of ex-Southampton midfielder Richard Chaplow on a free transfer tomorrow.

Chaplow's contract with the Saints was terminated by mutual consent on Thursday, clearing the way for the 28-year-old to join the Lions.

As revealed by NewsAtDen, Chaplow has agreed terms a two-year deal at The Den following the successful completion of a full medical last week.

Well done Steve Lomas can we have some more please, like a youngish forward and another good midfielder, and also get a few of the fringe players loaned out to help pay the new lads.

This such a significant signing. Chaplow, Morison and hopefully Shorey are not just quality players they represent an absolute statement of intent. It's shaping up nicely.

Don't think we'll get another striker.

    Morison.
    Keogh.
    Easter.
    N'Guessan.
    Marquis.

Be very suprised if its in this window. Think marquis will go out on loan & if N'Guessan don't perform then maybe.

Agree about Marquis needing experience, I would love to see him get his career back on track. Waghorn is also one for the future but probably fringe first team player at the moment.

Quite sure there's another striker coming in. Marquis to go out on loan. Easter and N'guessan to be the back-ups with Morison, Keogh and the new striker to be the first choices.

Spot on Chipplefuddywick!!!! Chaplow, Martin, Morison and Bywater are all quality operators at this level and Shorey would also be a great short-term signing. If SL manages to sign another midfielder (Bailey?) and a striker it will be one of the most extensive summer rebuilding jobs in the club's history.
The squad already has a more 'Championship' feel about it, unlike last season when we were punching way above our weight. By bumping up the pay structure and not wasting money on transfer fees the club has taken a significant step forward.
A mate of mine who's an Ipswich fanatic reckons Martin could turn out to be a great signing. To quote him: "There's an outstanding player in there somewhere but there's also a petulant git. If Lomas can kill off the 'git' you'll have a top quality player and I'll be sick we let him go."
    Over to you SL

@Lonz: Just what we need, another petulant git. Maybe Lomas should get him to room with DNG on the away trips.

Petulance plus talent equals worth taking a risk on
Petulance plus no sign of any talent (so far) equals a loan spell in League One!!!
It's hardly surprising that DNG's attitude is good as he tries to impress SL - the crunch will come when he doesn't get picked for the first game!!!!

@Lonz: Yeah, I said the exact same somewhere else on her Lonz. DNG won't be happy with a supporting role.

As you are all hoping we are aming for top 6 then we will need another decent forward to make 4 which is what you need and he will either loan of try to sell N'Guessan and Marquis before the start of the season.

Billy Sharp would be on higher wages than Waghorn I'd expect but then Waghorn needs a transfer fee to get him to Millwall. If Lomas is 'spinning plates' at the moment then one or two will have to stop spinning sooner rather than later. Comparing Sharp and Waghorn to Tyson and Hulse, well, there is no comparison and I'd be very happy with either.

    Another good signing by SL.
Sharp and Moro would be bloody decent as a two up top. Plus Waghorn coming in would be another quality addition too.
Can't wait for the new season now.

Great signing - exactly what we needed. The team is shaping up really well.
Nobody is mentioning the right back position - we don't have anybody else than Dunney. Jack Smith probably but really... The same goes for the left back as well - we have Lowry, but I'm keen to see a bit more of Malone to be honest.
So, Paintsil and Shorey for me + striker please.

It's all about opinions. Dunne is a fiery character and a real Millwall type of player but unfortunately that doesn't stop left wingers flying past him. It's going to even tougher this year with some bloody good teams with some excellent squads. If you want a good, solid right back, then there are better players in my opinion.

@NICKOLA: Certainly there are. I was rather talking about realistic targets and Paintsil and Shorey fit the bill. If I can choose I will go for John Brayford from Derby - his contract expires in 1 year and at the age of 24-25 he is a great prospect. But he will cost us probably 1M.

Millwall are truly making progress and I'm as excited as everyone. I think though it's going to be a while before we buy a defender in that price range. A striker yes but not in any other position. Maybe our revamped youth policy will unearth the next Millwall full backs.

@NICKOLA: I seem to remember dunney keeping zaha in his back pocket all game at the den and there were none better in the championship last year than him, I think he just needs the right crowd to fire him up and then hes good to go

My main problem with the right back position is that presently, Dunne has no real competition. He had it last year but Smith fell out of favour with Jackett and then went back to Spurs. Jack Smith is not real competition for any position IMO let alone right back. On his day Dunne is a reasonable player but he's erratic and if he gets injured or suspended who fills in ?

Goos boy.....Now lets go and get Bailey signed up so the likes of him, Trotter, Martin & Henry can go and express themselves.

If you look at Loma's signings and targets they are all players that like getting on the ball and keeping position. Really looking forward to the type of football we will be playing this season.....
