Ex-England international and Ghana star train with Millwall

MILLWALL are allowing free agents Nicky Shorey and John Paintsil to train with them, whilst Lee Croft has linked up with the squad for a second time.

But the Lions say the trio are not on trial, and that manager Steve Lomas is merely helping them "maintain their own personal fitness" as they continue to search for new clubs.

Shorey, a former England international, was let go by Reading at the end of last season. He had been on trial with Brighton earlier this month.

Paintsil, who has played for the likes West Ham, Fulham and Leicester during his career, as well as for Ghana, recently left Hapoel Tel Aviv.

They are joining in training sessions along with Croft, who was with Millwall at their Warwick University training camp last week.

This story was lifted from South London Today which had this news earlier.

@NICKOLA: I've got an exclusive for you, he's still a Southampton player. He said on his Twitter earlier - 'Sorry to burst anyone' bubble but as things stand I'm very much still a Southampton player'.... so not too sure where your sources are from.

Yep saw that too. Down to Millwall not wanting to buy out his last 12 months. Either way, looks like he is coming on board albeit 24 hours later than originally intended.@Bradders:

I jusr read that 18 yr ol Connor Wilkinson has signed a 3 year contract with Bolton
"The 6ft 2in forward was out of contract, but the Trotters have confirmed that discussions between the two clubs over a compensation package are still on-going.
The 18-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance, but has been capped at youth level of the Republic of Ireland." They must rate him.

@Peckhamlad: He's a quality player, but this is somewhat old news, signed for Bolton back in May whilst Jackett was still in charge. We apparently offered him good terms but wanted to get more 1st team football and money.... but cannot see him getting 1st team at Bolton so must have just been for the money.

Bet the lad is gutted now he's left after Lomas is keen to breed the youngsters and give them chances!!

@Bradders: Ok thx was not aware of that. I still cannot find any info on the official website about Chaplow signing, maybe it will be announced later. Some good photos of a 1st team training match on there. SL looks the business!

(Is there a technical problem with this site as it is reacting very slowly or perhaps it is at my end. )

Doesn't look good for him signing, not sure what the hold up is, but not looking good.

Wikipedia has got Panstil down as scoring 5 goals in 14 years of playing back to back seasons, why are we bothering? should be dropping him off at the local retirement home rather than letting him tag along

@banksy: He's an experienced full back has played for Fulham and West Ham in Premier league and for Ghana at international level so is no mug, had some domestic troubles with his wife and has been playing in Israel.

Well looking at both Shorey and Panstil they are both former internationals 1 for a decent national team the other for England both with a lot of prem games under there belts and Lee Coft I MO would add to the quality at the club so all worth a punt and see what happens.
Steve Lomas appears to have really livened this club over the last couple of days, if even a part of these reports tun out to be true there must be several players wondering if there time at the den is coming to an end.

@Barnlion: These two players are only training with the team to get fit so possibilities of them joining the club I think are remote.

@deano22: Where would Shorey fit in? not as good as he once was. Brighton didn't want him and they are desperate for a left-back as Bridge has gone elsewhere....

We have Shane Lowry at Left Back, or could sell him and take Shorey, but has lost some pace (and looks slower than Lowry) so wingers would get past him far too easy

To be honest he was a good player in his day and could be looking to impress lomas. He's clubless which means potless. Made some good signings lately but we can't sign every free agent on the market. The wage bill concerns me. One or two have gone but no-one on any significant money in order to consolidate. Get rid of some of the dead wood me thinks. Still hanging in there for some continental flair. Any whispers other than previous players, previous targets or previous loanee's?

@kempo_123: there is plenty of dish to go round. We've probably only just spent the Henderson wages so far. And if the board have made additional funds available there u are. Think the progress SL is making is excellent for the club as a whole.

Now lets see if he can gel them into a team of match winners which may be harder than balancing the books!

@bonnie1272: Point taken Bonnie! Not undermining what he has done, Im all for it so far, just like to see him venture a bit further a field than the free the UK free agent database. Thats all.

Maybe these trialists are training with us because SL wants to rattle a few players and make them feel that their position is under greater threat.

Hmmm... Don't think Pantsil would add much, I fancy Dunney and Jack Smith over him. However Shorey would be a great deal, never been convinced of Lowry being a left-back. Personally I would have Shorey and Malone as left-backs and Lowry, Shittu, Robbo and Beevers as centre halves. Scrap Osbourne as I don't think he's good enough at this level. Having said that, this is Millwall not Brighton, Wigan, QPR etc. and can't afford to bring in these amount of players in, especially since we still need another midfielder and striker.

I think both full back positions need looking at. Lowry, for me, would make a better centre half but is adequate at left back. Please don't get me started on Jack Smith or Dunne..
