Millwall unlikely to offer contract to midfield trialist Reeves

BEN Reeves was the most impressive trialist in a Millwall XI that were beaten 4-2 at Welling on Tuesday night – but he is unlikely to be offered a deal.

The 21-year-old was released by Southampton in May but it is understood neither he nor fellow trialists Nigel Neita, Aziz Deen-Conteh and Denzil Gerrard are considered as potential additions to the first-team squad.

Manager Steve Lomas, who watched from the stands, said: "We're giving some opportunities to people to come in, train and maybe play an occasional game for the development squad.

"When any trialist comes in you're taking a close look at them, but fundamentally they have to progress the club. We're not going to bring somebody in that's not going to improve the team, it's as simple as that."

Charlie Penny and Ben Thompson scored the Lions' goals as a young side, coached by Neil Harris and Scott Fitzgerald, were well-beaten at Park View Road.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained it is always difficult to judge in these types of games.
Will there be any more signings this week?

At last, a manager who speaks fluent common sense. I'm really warming to you, Mr Lomas.

All that optimisum of yesterday seems to have been blown away by Steve lomas actually going to the game to see for himself, and even if Revees had played with Bomber at Southend Lomas has pulled the plug if they are no better than the players already at the club.
It is a shame for these lads but it is a hard business which is mainly abou twhat someone thinks of you and are you there type of player and clearly our new manager is looking for in his opinion better players for the club, which as supporters is also what we want.

That's a good website, interesting that non of our players are listed as moving on....either they love the Pie and chips offered at the 'Lions Cafe' or they are wanted by anybody?

@colin66: Is that right, a free transfer? Either they have the terminology mixed up or they are wide of the mark. Jackson is now a free agent, no transfer involved.
