Former Southampton, Arsenal and Chelsea starlets on trial

MILLWALL will field four trialists in a development friendly at Welling tonight.

Former Southampton midfielder Ben Reeves, pacey Arsenal forward Nigel Neita, ex-Chelsea defender Aziz Deen-Conteh and Denzil Gerrard are currently training with the Lions.

Manager Steve Lomas yesterday described the quartet as "youth trialists" and they are likely being assessed with a view to joining the club's U21s squad for the forthcoming season.

Neita joined the Gunners from Millwall's academy in 2010 but is a free artsandhealth.ie/valtrex/ agent having been released in June. Reeves spent much of last season on loan at Southend United, whilst Deen-Conteh (pictured) won the FA Youth cup with the Blues in 2010.

Academy boss Scott Fitzgerald confirmed last month the club was actively looking to add new players to the development group. But he added said: "If we're going to take someone from the outside, it's because we think they have a chance of progressing to first-team level."

Great stuff lots of young players with talent are discarded by the big boys without being given a chance

So Reeves spent most of last season at Southend but they have not signed him, Neita left Millwall to go to the Arsenal but now wants to come back to us after not making the grade there, not sure if the Chelsea lad had a word with George Savill regarding getting splinters in the back side as thats all he did while on loan here sat on the bench.
Not saying that these lads wont make it but its a long way off yet so dont get too excited just yet, i dont know how old these lads are but as the season 2010 is mentionedthey must be out of there teens so they should be challanging for a first team place, rather than the under 21's side

@MFCTOMMY: MFC went to it last year a lot of money for a crap ground and a display by people pretending to represent millwall players and only one made a first team appearance last season "Osbourne" say no more.

@Barnlion: They are trialists, nothing else. Clubs will use the first pre season games to shape the squad. I went to a Shelbourne friendly a few years back, possibly Morison's debut and I think Jack S was on trial? The players were blowing after 5 mins and we won with an OG so you can't expect miracles in early July.

@Barnlion: barn if you read the article you wouldn't have the opinion you do, as Fitzgerald has stated above any academy signings from outside are with the intentions of the first team. If it don't come off then at least they are being pro active. Personally I'd moan if the club are seen to not be trying to improve in all areas.

Good news, this is a constructve and beneficial policy for all concerned, The club has nothing to lose but could have much to gain. it also gives these youngsters some hope for the future. Good luck to them. It is nothing new and I hope continues through the season.

I think it's a positive step - we might find a gem amongst them - if not, thanks very much but tellah - that's what these games are for. We won't learn anything if we play our best or strongest team in friendlies like this. Another good move by the new regime.

Ben Reeves looks a class act imo can play defence and midfield and prefers the left aide although plays off both feet

He can also play just off the striker which is what he did at Southend. (great write up on him on vital football)

Denzil is a goalie by the way and was on the books at Wycombe

No lose as I see it not like we are looking at these kids as a replacement for knob hulse etc these are fighting for their careers having had a lot of money pumped into their development by likes of chslsea etc so they must have had something perhaps we can't take advantage if not then we lost nothing have we

And in other transfer news - Bournemouth have signed 24-year-old Mohamed Coulibaly from Grasshoppers - will they still want Jackson?
Richard Chaplow's agent reckons talks with Birmingham have broken down - get on the phone SL ASAP!!!

Money isn't a problem for Bournemouth so yes, they would still want Jackson. The fact that he, and Chaplow haven't signed for anyone yet is due to two sobering reasons. First the length of contract and second the amount of money they want, not just for their weekly wages but also signing on fees. Both of those reasons would, in my opinion, remove them from Lomas's mind as possible targets,

(watched the game last night) ben reeves looked the best out of the trialists..comfortable on the ball and looks a creative players (got an assist), keeper was okay but nothing special, nieta didnt really get on the ball and not really sure about the other one. Apart from that penney and o'brien looked good for us attacking wise as did goodman defensively
