SOUTHAMPTON manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Millwall target Richard Chaplow is free to leave the club this summer.

Chaplow, along with other fringe players Billy Sharp, Dean Hammond, Tadanari Lee, Lee Barnard and Steve De Ridder, is not currently training with the Saints.

The 28-year-old's agent said this week that his client likely to move to a Championship club in the coming weeks, alerting Lions boss Steve Lomas, who has made an enquiry.

And Pochettino revealed on Thursday: "I think I've been quite clear about certain players who are perhaps on the fringes. I've been clear in the sense that they're not going to be with us during pre-season. I think I've made my point about that already.

"They are a group of players that – because of different reasons – we're not really counting on and they won't be with us in the future. They will have to find a solution as to where they will be in the future."

Chaplow has 12 months remaining on his contract at St Mary's but Pochettino's comments suggest that the Premier League club are happy to waive any fee they would be entitled to.

Move on.... nothing to see here. Put the word 'millwall' in a story and it becomes news.

I think it's fair to say that Lomas has alternatives if his choices don't materialise. From what's been said, Bailey has until tomorrow to firm up with Millwall or he can sling his hook. If he doesn't sign. and personally I think he will, then the likes of Chaplow will obviously be linked with Millwall. What we've got to remember here is that we still need another striker another midfielder in addition to Bailey/Chaplow etc. and a 3rd goalie. We've already brought in 3 players, boosted the coaching and revamped the academy. If we do sign a total of 6 players that will undoubtedly put a 'Lomas' Millwall team onto the pitch with the rest and the reserves being thos ethat he inherited from Jackett. For me, the new players-so far-are an improvement and I'm personallly revelling in looking at transfer gossip, investigating players that are out of contract and formulating a Millwall starting eleven for August 3rd. That's is a real change and one that is refreshing.

@NICKOLA: Had a strong season in the Premiership last year after making peace with the powers that be at Southampton F.C.

Any chance at all of us getting Billy Sharp, I know its a long shot. De ridder would be a great signing as well, quality winger, left and right...

SL must know the players he wants, its refreshing to have a manager so active in the transfer market..but has he spent any money yet? i would be delighted if he does persuade S Jackson to sign, if not him a good striker. Also some younger talent.
I wonder how the team are responding to him?

Must admit Billy Sharp at the Den linking up with Morison would suit me! Better than anyone else we have on the books at the moment.

Who knows, like I said yesterday Sharpe for free as well as Chaplow it's a no brainer! But I suspect SL is holding out for Jackson,Jackson is away at the moment with Canada and said he won't be doing anything until he gets back! Either way Morison and Jackson know each other and would easy bag 15+ goals each in The Championship.Im feeling very positive for this season SL seems to have a finger on the pulse and a rocket up his a***,so what if he is getting ex west ham managers to do all the ringing around for him,in my opinion that's called initiative,if you can't make 100 phone calls to agents a day on your own,get help! Lol
