Striker Morison re-joins Millwall on season-long loan deal

STRIKER Steve Morison has re-joined Millwall on a season-long loan deal from Leeds United, who are clearing the decks to bring in Noel Hunt.

The Lions will stump up the majority of Morison's wages but that seems like a small price to pay for a player who has scored 55 goals over the past four seasons.

Steve Lomas first enquired about Morison several weeks ago but, like with several other targets, had expected to have to bide his time in his pursuit of the 29-year-old, with clubs only just returning to pre-season training.

But Whites boss Brian McDermott was told he would have to free up space in his wage budget before being allowed to push through the Hunt deal and subsequently made Morison available for loan, clearing the way for Lomas to move in.

NewsAtDen understands that Lomas then set Leeds a Friday deadline to get the deal done, with other targets waiting in the wings should the clubs fail to come to a speedy agreement.

That tactic paid dividends and Millwall have now confirmed Morison's return, which was partly influenced by new coach Neil Harris, who is believed to have spoken with his former strikepartner about coming back to The Den.

Morison told the club's official site: "I'm pleased to be back here. If anybody has any doubts about me all I'd say is that I aim to score plenty of goals for Millwall and help this club to greater success. I've been looking after myself in the summer; I'm fit and raring to go."

McDermott added: "I am looking to re-shape my squad for the new season and there was an offer on the table for Steve to go to a club that he has already played at. He's there for a year and he will be playing games."

Leeds cannot recall Morison, although he will be ineligible to play against them, and the Lions do not have a pre-agreed option to buy the striker at the end of his loan.

Cheers Luke. My tentacles are not that long but I'd say Bailey was a cert now. I'd like Jackson in personally but Lomas still has that budget in hand cos we're only paying a small part of Morison's wages so still think there's a permanent ' biggie' coming in very soon.

Well done to Lomas, Harris and Morrison.
Harris and Morrison were a good partnership before and I'm sure they will be again even if it is in a slightly different capacity. Looking forward to 3rd August.

    COME ON YOU LIONS!

@glyngo: Worst case scenario is that we only have him for a season but at lest it gives us breathing space to find a more permanent replacement. As I say thats the worst case so we can now look forward to this season.

Could be the start of something. I'm sure I read on here last week that baileys move depends on ambition well, this is a statement of intent and who knows Moro may even posuade Simeon Jackson to sign.

Brilliant bit of business by SL and the Lions. Morison was valued at around £1million when Norwich gave him to Leeds as part of the Becchio deal, so to get him back on-loan strikes me as extremely astute.
After a slow start to his Millwall career, KJ dragged Morison to one side and said 'start using your physique and aerial strength to make life hell for defenders and the goals will follow'.
I'm sure SL - no shrinking violet in his playing days - and Bomber will hammer home that message and after being deemed surplus to requirements by Norwich and Leeds, Morison will be desperate to prove himself and protect his place in the Wales side.
Bringing him in on loan means we haven't had to dip into the transfer kitty and if SL can pull off a few more masterstrokes like this one who knows what next season might bring!!!
    Keep em coming, SL!

Brilliant news. I heard he was on £8k a week before he left for Norwich. Hope its not much more now cos it could skint us. Fair play to SM though coming back and to the club for splashing out on a years wages of at least £1/2M for a quality striker. He looked sharp when Weeds drew at Palarse and scored two good goals. If he stays fit he can get 20+ goals this season. COYL

I genuinely think Morison and Keogh will be a partnership to rival any in the championship. If we do manage to get some of the other targets SL has mentioned then the ginger revolution will be in full swing

Never seen so many people change their views so quickly ha ha
