Millwall chasing ex-Middlesbrough and Charlton star Bailey

STEVE Lomas has held talks with ex-Middlesbrough and Charlton midfielder Nicky Bailey about a possible move to Millwall, NewsAtDen understands.

Bailey was released by Boro at the end of last season and Lomas has since expressed a keen interest in making the 28-year-old his first signing as Lions boss.

On Thursday, Bailey's wife wrote on Twitter that she was "London bound…crossing the T's dotting the I's." However, she later said: "Someone put a spanner in the works! Another 3 clubs to go! This weekend gonna be crazy then decision time for us. Who it going to be?"

Born in Putney, Bailey began his career at Sutton United before moving onto Barnet and then Southend United. He scored four goals in 98 appearances during three seasons at Middlesbrough after leaving the Addicks for £1.4million.

    'London bound' ?
Hmmm. Not likely to be a Premiership team and it wouldn't be Charlton or Palace so that leaves Millwall as the Championship team. The others must be League 1 unless London includes Reading etc.
Never seen him play but he looks from his photo like someone who doesn't shy away from too many tackles.

great football brain and passer of the ball and thrived as the main man with the anoraks and southend, but couldn't cut it with boro. might resurrect his career, but i'm sure anoraks are favourites.

Could be interesting between him and Dunney on the training ground after their spat at boro......Would be loved down the den though, gets stuck in, wind up the opposition and has a decent football brain. Wouldn't set the world a light but is arguably better than what we have. As SL keeps saying he is looking for the "The Right Type" of player, I reckon he fits that bill. If Charlton want him, they would be favorites....IMHO

Absolutely shocking at Boro!! Can't see this being an improvement on what we already have - He was great for Charlton but since he left there I havent seen him have 1 good game!! Boro released him for a reason..... he's not cutting it!

3 goals in 98 games at a club that is about the same standard as us, so why are we bothering or is this jus another filler for these pages and not going anywhere, if he is from Putney then his local side is Brentford try there for a job old Nick.

Bit of a git when playing against us, tried to mix it with the old Guard, so you gotta respect him for having the stones to have a go. Could be the mid field enforcer we have missed for a while. Always thought he would fit in at the Den but can't forget his Anorak roots.

He won't come to us. This is going to be the same story throughout the Summer. As soon as we publicly express an interest in a player another club will beat us to his signature. PLEASE LET US KNOW WHO WE HAVE SIGNED AFTER THEY HAVE PUT PEN TO PAPER.

@JonnyBanks: I am not sure Chaplow ever fancied staying, all hs interviews he seemed to be sayig that he was using the opportunity to get fit and he wanted to get back to his parent club.

A midfield enforcer who can actually pass the ball - we've certainly get a vacancy for one of those!!! I'm not sure Chaplow is going to be fit for the start of the season and if he is I imagine he'll have plenty of offers to consider over the next few weeks.

@Lonz: I would take him injured. I think at our level he is the perfect player for us. I liked his ability and attitude. No doubt we will be caught on our heals with him and lose out. I just think if we were to go back in for him and show faith like Man U did when RV Nistlerooy did his ACL we will reap the benefits.

I couldn't agree more - unfortunately I think he will be spoilt for choice. Quality operator at Championship level, if he hadn't got injured I think we would have stayed up far more comfortably. I'd be delighted if we signed him, but I just don't think it's going to happen, particularly as he will be on decent money

He is a very good player and he would become a Millwall player.

    Look
I ain't gonna get excited about this
    But.....
I did have high hopes of signing him and actually named him in a starting 11 for the coming season so yes I still have high hopes. Think he is exactly what we need in the middle
    Come on bailey

Encouraging. Horrible bstard who can also play football. Just what our midfield needs. He also fits the profile in that he's gone somewhere (Boro in this case) for big money and been a failure, so he has something to prove. If we can get him off the pies and into some sort of shape, this will be a class signing.
