Striker target Lafferty set for move to Italian side Palermo

MILLWALL'S hopes of signing striker Kyle Lafferty this summer are fading after Italian outfit Palermo declared an interest in the 25-year-old.

Lions boss Steve Lomas confirmed he was keen on landing the former Rangers star, who is being allowed to leave Swiss side FC Sion on the cheap, but he appears destined for Serie B.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini said on Friday that, "after a year of following him, I can finally take Lafferty to Palermo from Switzerland."

Speaking earlier in the week, sporting director Nicola Amoruso added: "Lafferty is one of our major targets in the summer and someone we are following after advice and direction from [manager Rino] Gattuso. Despite his height and physical presence, he is a player with speed over the ground and technical ability."

This is what I was afraid of. We have been linked with half a dozen different players this week but I wonder how many of them we will actually end up signing? As I have said before I ONLY WANT TO KNOW WHO WE HAVE SIGNED AFTER THE PLAYER HAS PUT PEN TO PAPER.

Palermo's loss is Millwall's gain. F*** him, over rated worthless no good c***. I would actually be worried if we actually were interested in him.

I don't know that much about him and I'm not sure who's opinion to trust. Gattuso who has got a World Cup winners medal, two Champions League winners medals and two Serie A winners medal or 'bermondsey male choir'.

@Lonz: I'd take Bermondsey Male Choir's word any day of the week. over that of someone who knows nothing about Millwall or English football. There's also the possibility that Gattuso may have lots of medals but none of the qualities that make a good a manager or judge of a player. Lots of World Cup winners, Moore, Stiles and Ball to name but three who were useless managers. But perhaps you're one of those that believes if it's anything but British it has to be better.

Lets be fair here. We've not heard a single quote from the player regarding MFC. Only that he enjoys it in Switzerland.

I suspect we're going to be linked with every out-of-contract player and unwanted maverick this summer. Can't say I'm too upset about this one slipping through the net.

Can't miss what you don't have.
Personally I dont care one iota.
As I've said I'm worried this site is becoming a roumer site, I hope not as I've enjoyed it upto now.
Simeon Jackson is a better player anyway and I'd rather the club do all they can to get him
Berylson said after the wood fiasco he has that money available for the right player well Jackson IMO is the right player and it won't cost as much as wood. He'll accept 15/20k a week and he won't cost a transfer fee so he should be affordable.

@dannywall: Wanting someone and actually signing them are 2 totally different things. At least with the Wood saga he actually said that he wanted to sign for us even though he didn't go through with it, but these other names being dropped in the frame as far as I know have not expressed a desire to play for MFC so why are they being mentioned. SL would probably like to get Messi but he has as much chance of getting him as some of the other names mentioned ie none.
Same scenario as the manager fiasco as we all thought, Just a steady drip feed of crap with little or no substance just to keep us using the site.
There can only be a negative outcome as we get our hopes raised only to be dashed again.
The end result is a feeling of disappointment and let down. Instead of being happy with future signings we will be comparing them with the better players that were touted but who we didn't land.
        Groundhog day !!

We should not be paying anybody 15-20k imo. It's not sustainable in the championship in general let alone for a club of our size and average attendance.

Let the others pay those silly wages for overblown, under skilled players and concentrate on unearthing the likes of Sheringham, Cascarino, Cahill, Harris etc
Or give the kids we invest in a chance.

Loaning squad players with little ambition on top wages is also a no no, pointless unless they are hungry like Chaplow. Again imo.

Spot on JonnyBanks - paying someone £20,000 a week would be sheer lunacy given our income and would blow the wage structure to pieces.

@Lonz: As I said above Lonz, my very rough calculation is about 1,500 season tickets for 1 player. On gates of 10,000ish and with a conservative/sensible Board, I doubt we'll be paying that to any player, but if there's no transfer fee they might factor that in? Yet more speculation though.....

@lion.ie: lion I take it you can't remember what the board and berylson said in and around the wood fiasco.
        Again,
he said the money is there for the right player. The package he was prepared to pay wood was very high. He also said after that if we find another player we "would" pay that money and it "is" available.
Moc me as much as you like I'm just picking up on what's been officially said from the club.

@lukesmithmfc: That's what they said, yes. We missed out on Wood and then got Hulse and Tyson. Until we see it happen there has to be a doubt that JB will go against his vow of 'not putting the clubs future in doubt in pursuit of the Premiership'. 20k a week wages for one player on crowds of 10,000, for the right player maybe and as I said, on a free transfer it could be possible, but at the moment only JB knows what he's prepared to pay and the gossip is all becoming rather dull. When we see some action we can really start talking. Not sure what the mocking is in reference to?

    QUOTE:
Lafferty is being moved on after enraging Sion chairman Christian Constantin with his performance in a 5-0 defeat to St Gallen last month.
Constantin hit out at four other players after the game, saying: "I won’t agree to their involvement in the team again. With regards to Lafferty, I accept he has had injuries which have affected him mentally and physically, but I’m still angry with him.
No great loss, moving swiftly on. COYL

I don't think Simeon Jackson is any better than Easter and he will prob be going elsewhere anyway.

Lomas identifies the players and AA will try to get the deal. I would prefer if Millwall kept their plans secret though, too much speculation suggests they are being a bit naive.

@lionking: I actually think we should give Easter a chance. He hasn't had a run in the team yet and it takes strikers time to find their feet. Morison looked rubbish for half a season then got his game sorted out and became a goal machine

Lomas should cut the crap and get the deals done. The next 3 weeks will go a long way to shaping our season. If we are getting to the end of July still looking to sign significant players for the squad then its the same old mistakes being made. We can't stand by and just get the dross at the end. Come on Lomas you should realise you can't con Millwall support get the strengthening done---Why do I feel we could be looking at our old friend "the emergency loan window" again

It would be good to see who Arsenal bring in this summer and see if we can get Afobe. They have released a stack of players so I am sure they will be buying and I can't see Afobe getting a first team game.

Christ, I've had it up to hear with this 'no news' scenario.
So, out of desperation I've devised a Millwall team to start the 2013-14 season based on the current squad.
Forde, Lowry, Beevers, Shittu, Dunne, Trotter, Henry, Keogh.
That means, in my opinion, that we need at least 3 new players based on a starting eleven not including new players to create a 'squad' inclusive of a new back-up goalkeeper. Total new players rquired 5-6. The likes of N'Guessan, Woolford, Feeney, Osborne etc. to be outed.

It's so boring being linked with him & him !!!!!! .. we all know as Nickola says we have 7/8 players who can play in the champ/ship, the rest can jog on .. SL knows that as well, so until we get a few names on board n the board put their money where their mouths are we can look forwards to a good season top 10 or another crap season bottom 3 !!!!!! ...im hoping SL is gonna do a brilliant job for us & give us something to sing about not just moan about 🙁 ... come on d wall !!!!! millllllllllllllllllllll

Getting decent players identified is no problem. Hearts have transfer listed their entire squad and half of them are good enough IMHO. Celtic have released a decent winger (Paddy McCourt) and a couple of the other bigger Scottish sides are also releasing players like Czech international Dan Twardzik. SL will know which ones he needs but persuading them to come might be a problem, although it is now less of a problem than it would have been under Jackett as SL will know them.

Reading say they want to sign seven new players at least, including Dutch winger Royston Drenthe. Wigan's new boss, Coyle wants to "bounce back" to the premiership and reshape his squad. The competition is going to be stiff next season and I hope Millwall can strengthen the team to meet what is bound to be a very hard challenging campaign. I am sure everyone has had enough of struggling around the lower end of the table and to have a good squad capable of staying in the top half at the very least. Talk of promotion would be too premature.

@Peckhamlad: I think you're spot on PL. It would be more in keeping with what JB has done at the club so far for top half consolidation to be the aim next season. He was probably hoping for that last season but as we all know things went pear shaped in 2013, but ultimately we were only two wins away, although the performances in the end were light years away. If Lomas is as good as he, himself, says he is, JB might think we can sneak into the top six but it looks harder now than ever.
